In this book, Lave and Wenger radically rethink how we learn. They suggest that learning takes place through the process of participation in communities of practice. They suggest that at first, this participation is peripheral but that the participation gradually increases in both engagement and complexity.

MUCH more accesible than Wenger’s Communities of Practice, this book is informing my changing understanding of learning. ( )

This book is written very clearly and concisely. The examples they give provide a very good understanding between apprenticeship and legitimate peripheral participation. Good for students interesting in the learning sciences to help understand educational environments. ( )
