25 YEARS IN EVIDENCE.

DEAR SIR:

Some twenty-five years since, we introduced largely to the Medical profession, a combination, which we called "BEEF, WINE AND IRON," giving the exact ingredients and making no claim of proprietorship. It has been very freely prescribed with most satisfactory results. Our sales have been very extensive, amounting to millions of bottles, besides a large quantity in bulk for dispensing in prescriptions. The claims we advanced as to its value as a NUTRIENT, STIMULANT and TONIC, have been fully verified, and its advantages have been highly appreciated by thousands of the leading practitioners all over the world. To a great degree, this has been due to the intelligent preparation of the BEEF JUICE, which is combined with the WINE and IRON. We maintain, that, to manufacture it so as to contain the nutrient material in a small bulk, expensive apparatus is essential, in order to secure expression and evaporation at a low temperature. This can only be provided to advantage, if the manufacture is to be conducted on a very large scale. We import the Sherry Wine, hundreds of casks at a time. We are now receiving from the best Beef butchers, supplies of the most desirable Beef, free from fat or gelatin.

We have no hesitation in stating, that as a Tonic, Stimulant and Roborant, Beef, Iron and Wine, properly prepared, has proven more uniformly beneficial, than any combination we have ever known.

IT IS A VALUABLE RESTORATIVE

IN CONVALESCENCE

As a nutritive tonic it would be indicated in the treatment of Impaired Nutrition, Impoverishment of the Blood, and in all the various forms of General Debility.

Prompt results will follow its use for Pallor, Palpitation of the Heart, and cases of Sudden Exhaustion, arising either from acute or chronic diseases. Doctors, and members of other professions, find it very effectual in restoring strength and tone to the system after exhaustion produced by over mental exercise.

AN IMPORTANT POSTSCRIPT.

[graphic]

Wy th's Beef Iron and Wine has made its great reputation because it contains what it claims.

In each tablespoonful of this preparation there is the essence of one ounce of Beef and two grains of Iron, in solution in Sherry Wine. It is therefore a refreshing stimulant, the effect of which is not merely to quicken the circulation and impart a temporary benefit, but also to supply actual strength. Physicians and patients have been much disappointed in the benefit anticipated, and often ill effects have been experienced from the use of the many ¡mitations claiming to be the same, or as good as Wyeth's. In purchasing or prescribing please ask for "Wyeth's," and do not be persuaded to take any other.

N.B.-A sample bottlewill be mailed you free of charge if you will write the D. & L. Co. In corresponding with advertisers please mention Montreal Medical Journal

PERFECTION ATTAINED.

DR. C. L. COULTER'S

Combined Vaporizer and Inhaler

THE CHAMPION VOLATILIZER.

A New Instrument for Vaporizing Oils and Drugs for Inhalation

[graphic]

AS WELL AS FOR

Disinfecting & Deodorizing Sick Rooms,

Hospitals, Public Buildings, Railway Carriages, &c.: also an Odorizer for Perfuming Parlors, Opera Houses, Etc. Excels all other Inhalers, as it reduces Drugs and Oils to a Gaseous State, in which condition only can they reach directly the cavities and air passages to be medicated, thus proving beneficial in the treatment of Diseases of the Nose, Throat and Lungs, such as Consumption. Bronchitis, Asthma, WhoopingCough, Croup, Diphtheria, Catarrh, La Grippe and Hay Fever.

Beechwood, Creasote, Oil of Southern Pine Needles and Eucalyptus Oil, of each equal parts, vaporized and inhaled, affords wonderful benefit in Phthisis.

ADVANTAGES.

1. A non-irritating, thoroughly medicated vapor is obtained by reason of the reservoir containing the medicated sponge being placed on the inhaling tube at a distance of 8 or 10 inches from the boiling water, and complete volatilization is effected of the drugs to be inhaled, thus ensuring their reaching directly the part to be medicated. Other so-called vapor

zers are only atomizers of sprays, breaking the drugi into, fluid, particles which are not diffusible and therefore too heavy to be inspired.

2. By vaporizing antiseptics, it quickly sterlizes the atmosphere in cases of infectious diseases, thereby reducing to u minimum the danger of contracting Diphtheria, Scarlet Fever, Cholera, etc. 3. It is simple, durable, convenient of manipulation and absolutely proof against explosion or fire. 4. The price is a great desideratum, being only about half that of any other vaporizer, volatilizer, or inhaler that claims any merit.

It is the only volatilizer that is unanimously endorsed and recommended by medical men, sanitarians and chemists, amongst wnom are the following;

W. R. GEIKIE, M.D.C.M., D.C.L., Fellow Royal College Surgeons, Edinburgh; L.R.C.P., London, Dean Trinity Medical College, Toronto.
