Judah, began Ahab the Son of Omri to reign over Ifrael; and Ahab the Son of Omri reigned over Ifrael in Samaria twenty and two Years.

30 And Ahab the Son of Omri did Evil in the fight of the LORD, above all that were before him.

31 And it came to pafs, as if it had been a light Thing for him to walk in the Sins of Jeroboam the Son of Nebat; that he took to Wife Jezebel the Daughter of Ethbaal King of the Zidonians, and went and ferved Baal, and worshipped him.

32 And he reared up an Altar for Baal, in the House of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

33 And Ahab made a Grove; And Ahab did more to provoke the LORD GOD of Ifrael to Anger, than all the Kings of Ifrael that were before him.

34 In his Days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: hé laid the Foundation thereof in Abiram his First-born, and fet up the Gates thereof in his youngest Son Segub, according to the Word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the Son of Nun.

II. CHRON. CHAP. XVII.

1 Jehoshaphat fucceeding Afa, reigneth well, and profpereth : 7 He fendeth Levites with the Princes to teach Judah : 10 His Enemies being terrified by GOD, fome of them bring bim Prefents and Tribute: 12 His Greatness, Captains, and Armies, confifting of one Million, one hundred and fixty Thoufand.

Ver. 1 AND Jehoshaphat the Son of Afa reigned in his

ftead, and ftrengthened himself against Ifrael.

2 And he placed Forces in all the fenced Cities of Judah, and the Cities of Ephraim, which Afa his Father had taken.

3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first Ways of his Father David, and fought not unto Baalim;

4 But fought to the LORD GOD of his Fathers, and walked in his Commandments, and not after the Doings of Ifrael:

5 Therefore the LORD ftablished the Kingdom in his Hand, and he had Riches and Honour in abundance.

6 And his Heart was lift up in the Ways of the LORD: moreover, he took away the high Places and Groves out of Judah.

7 Alfo in the third Year of his Reign, he fent to his Princes, to teach in the Cities of Judah.

8 And with them he fent Levites and Priests.

9 And they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the Cities of Judah, and taught the People.

10 And the Fear of the LORD fell upon all the Kingdoms of the Lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no War against Jehoshaphat.

11 Alfo fome of the Philiftines brought Jehoshaphat Prefents, and Tribute-filver; and the Arabians brought him Flocks.

12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly, and he built in Judah, Castles, and Cities of Stone.

13 And he had much Bufinefs in the Cities of Judah: and the Men of War mighty Men of Valour were in Jerufalem.

14 And these are the Numbers of them: of Judah, the Captains of Thoufands; Adnah the Chief, and with him mighty Men of Valour, three hundred thoufand.

15 And next to him was Jehohanan the Captain, and with him two hundred and fourfcore thousand.

16 And next him was Amafiah, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thoufand mighty Men of Valour.

17 And of Benjamin, Aliada a mighty Man of Valour, and with him, armed Men with Bow and Shield, two hundred thoufand.

18 And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourfcore thousand ready prepared for the War. 19 Thefe waited on the King, befides thofe whom the King put in the fenced Cities, throughout all Judah.

ND Elijah the Tifhbite, who was of the Inhabitants of Gilead, faid unto Ahab, As the LORD GOD of Ifrael liveth, before whom I ftand, there fhall not be Dew nor Rain these Years, but according to my Word. 2 And the Word of the LORD came unto him, faying, 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee Eastward, and hide thyfelf by the Brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4 And it fhall be, that thou fhalt drink of the Brook, and I have commanded the Ravens to feed thee there.

5 So he went, and did according unto the Word of the LORD for he went and dwelt by the Brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 And the Ravens brought him Bread and Flesh in the Morning, and Bread and Flesh in the Evening, and he drank of the Brook.

7 And it came to pafs after a while, that the Brook dried up, because there had been no Rain in the Land.

8 And the Word of the LORD came unto him, faying,

9 Arife, and get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a Widow-woman there to fuftain thee.

Luke iv. 25 But I tell you of a Tuth, many WIDOWs were in Ifrael in the Days of Elias, when the Heaven was fhut up three Years and fix Months, when great FAMINE was throughout all the Land.

26 But unto none of them was Elias fent, fave unto Sarepta, a City of Sidon, unto a Woman that was a WIDOW.

10 So he arofe, and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the Gate of the City, behold, the Widow-woman was there gathering of Sticks: and he called to her, and faid, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little Water in a Veflel, that I may drink.

11 And as he was going to fetch it, he called to her, and faid, Bring me, I pray thee, a morfel of Bread in thine Hand.

12 And fhe faid, As the LORD thy GOD liveth, I have not a Cake, but an handful of Meal in a Barrel, and a little Oil in a Crufe: and behold, I am gathering two Sticks, that I may go in, and drefs it for me and my Son, that we may cat it, and die.

13 And Elijah faid unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou haft faid: but make me thereof a little Cake firit, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy Son.

14 For

14 For thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, The Barre! of Meal fhall not wafte, neither fhall the Crufe of Oil fail until the Day that the LORD fendeth Rain upon the Earth.

15 And he went, and did according to the Saying of Elijah and fhe, and he, and her Houfe did eat many Days.

16 And the Barrel of Meal wafted not, neither did the Crufe of Oil fail, according to the Word of the LORD which he fpake by Elijah.

17 And it came to pafs after thefe Things, that the Son of the Woman, the Miftrefs of the Houfe, fell fick, and his Sickness was fo fore, that there was no Breath left in him.

18 And fhe faid unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou Man of GOD? art thou come unto me to call my Sin to remembrance, and to flay my Son?

19 And he faid unto her, Give me thy Son. And he took him out of her Bofom, and carried him up into a Loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own Bed.

20 And he cried unto the LORD, and faid, O LORD my GOD, haft thou alfo brought Evil upon the Widow, with whom I fojourn by flaying her Son?

21 And he stretched himfelf upon the Child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and faid, O LORD my GOD, I pray thee, let this Child's Soul come into him again.

22 And the LORD heard the Voice of Elijah, and the Soul of the Child came into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the Child, and brought him down out of the Chamber into the Houfe, and delivered him unto his Mother: and Elijah faid, See, thy Son liveth.

24 And the Woman faid to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a Man of GoD, and that the Word of the LORD in thy Mouth is Truth.

CHAP. XVIII.

In the Extremities of Famine, Elijah being fent to Ahab, meeteth good Obadiah. 9 Obadiah bringeth Ahab to Elijah. 17 Elijah reproving Ahab: 41 By Fire from Heaven convinceth Baal's Prophets; by Prayer obtainath Rain; followeth Ahab to fexreel,

Ver. 1 AND it came to pafs after many Days, that the

Year, faying, Go, fhew thy felf unto Ahab; and I will fend Rain upon the Earth.

2 And Elijah went to fhew himself unto Ahab and there was a fore Famine in Samaria.

3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the Governour of his Houfe: (now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:

4 For it was fo when Jezebel cut off the Prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred Prophets, and hid them by fifty in a Cave, and fed them with Bread and Water:)

5 And Ahab faid unto Obadiah, Go into the Land unto all Fountains of Water, and unto all Brooks: peradventure we may find Grafs to fave the Horfes and Mules alive, that we leefe not all the Beasts.

6 So they divided the Land between them to pafs throughout it: Ahab went one Way by himself, and Obadiah went another Way by himself.

7 And as Obadiah was in the Way, behold, Elijah met him and he knew him, and fell on his Face, and faid, Art thou that my Lord Elijah?

8 And he answered him, I am go tell thy Lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

9 And he faid, What have I finned, that thou wouldst deliver thy Servant into the Hand of Ahab, to flay me?

10 As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no Nation nor Kingdom, whither my Lord hath not fent to seek thee: and when they faid, He is not there; he took an Oath of the Kingdom and Nation, that they found thee not.

1 And now thou fayeft, Go tell thy LORD, Behold, Elijah is here.

12 And it fhall come to pafs, as foon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD fhall carry thee whither I know not; and fo when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he fhall flay me: but I thy Servant fear the LORD from my Youth.

13 Was it not told my Lord, what I did when Jezebel flew the Prophets of the LORD? how I hid an hundred Men of the LORD's Prophets by fifty in a Cave, and fed them with Bread and Water?
