the light and the sun (p): thou hast appointed the moon for seasons; the sun knoweth his going down (q). In thy hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind (r); and if this night my soul shall be required of me (s), into thine hand I commit my spirit, for thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth(t).
PRAYER FOR THE YOUNG.
Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psalmı
O THOU who didst suffer little children to come unto thee (a); and who
out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength (b); who hast chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty (c), hear the voice of my humble petitions when I cry unto thee, when I hold up my hands towards the mercy-seat of thy holy temple (d). Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me (e)!
Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths: lead me in thy truth, and teach me (f). Grant that I may remember my Creator in the days of

my youth (g); then will He not cast me off in the time of old age, nor forsake me when my strength faileth (h); and though my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up(i).
Give unto me the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit (j), that I may obey my parents in the Lord (k), submit myself unto my elders(7), and dwell in unity with my brethren (m). Lord, deliver me from every evil work, and preserve me unto thy heavenly kingdom (n): guide me with thy counsel, and afterwards receive me to glory (0).
Let the words of my mouth, and the
meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer (p).
PRAYER FOR THE ADOLESCENT.

O THOU whose meat it was to do the will of Him that sent thee (a), and who wast in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (b), be thou the guide of my youth (c). Make me to know the God of my fathers, and to serve him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind (d); to honour my

father and my mother (e); to obey them that have the rule over me, and submit myself (f), and to be clothed with humility (g): so that if the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; and if he reprove me, it shall be as an excellent oil, which shall not break my head (h). Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full and deny thee, and say, "Who is the Lord?" or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain (i). Incline not my heart to any evil thing; for if I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me (j). Grant that I may flee youthful lusts (k), order
