Ps. 73:26. My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart.

Lam. 3:31-33. The Lord will not cast off forever. But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

2 Cor. 4:16, 17. Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

2 Cor. 5:1. For we know, that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Of Recovery from Sickness.

Job 33:25. His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; he shall return to the days of his youth.

Support under Sickness.

Ps. 41:3. The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing; thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.

Deliverance from Death.

1 Sam. 2:6. The Lord killeth, and maketh alive; he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

Deut, 32:39. See now, that I, even I am He, and there is no God with me: I kill, and I make alive: I wound, and I heal.

Job 19:25, 26. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth and though, after my skin, worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.

Use of Afflictions.

Ps. 119:67. Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now have I kept thy word.

Ps. 119:71. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Ps. 119: 75. I know, O Lord, thy judg ments are right, and thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

Job 5:17, 18. Happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastenings of the Almighty, For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

Ps. 94: 12. Blessed is the man whom thou

chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of

thy law.

Prov. 3: 12.

Whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as the father the son in whom he delighteth.

Heb. 12:6, 7. Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as sons: for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Heb. 12:10, 11. They verily, for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness, unto them which are exer.cised thereby.

Rev. 3:19. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.

Ps. 68:5. A father of the fatherless, and à judge of the widows, is God in his holy habi

tation.

Ps. 146:9. He relieveth the fatherless and widow.

Prov. 23: 10, 11. Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless. For their Redeemer is mighty: he shall plead their cause with thee.

Jer. 49:11. Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows

trust in me.

Hosea 14: 3. In thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

To the Poor and Helpless.

Ps. 9:18. The needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

Ps. 68:10. Thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.

Ps. 132: 15. I will satisfy her poor with bread.

Ps. 62: 12. He shall deliver the needy when he crieth: the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

Ps. 102:17. He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

Ps. 113:7. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill.

Ps. 107:41. He setteth the poor on high

from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.

Job 36:15. He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression. James 1:9. Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted.
