A There are alfo celeftial bodies, and bodies terreurial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terreftrial is another.

A commendation of Paul's miniftry, 6 A comparijon between the minigers of the law and the gospel.

DO we begin again to commend ourfelves? or, Need we as fome orbers,epiftles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

2 Ye are our epiftle written in our hearts, known and read of all men ;

led to be the epiftie of Chrift miniftered by Forafmuch as ye are manifeftly declarus, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of flone, but in flefhly tables of the heart.

4 And fuch truft have we through

8 And I wrote the fame unto you, left. when I came, I fhould have forrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; hav-Chrift to God ward: ing confidence in you all, that my joy is be joy of you all.

4 For out of much affliction and anguifh of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye fhould be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

5 Not that we are fufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves: but our fufficiency is of God;

6 Who alfo hath made us able minifters of the new teftament: not of the letter, but of the fpirit: for the letter killeth, but the fpirit giveth life.

7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in ftones, was glorious, fo that the children of Ifrael could not 6 Sufficient to fuch a man is this pun-ftedfaftly behold the face of Mofes for ifhment, which was inflicted of many. the glory of his countenance; which 7 So that contrariwife ye ought rather glory was to be done away: to forgive him, and comfort him, left perhaps fuch an one thould be swallowed up with over much forrow.

8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

9 For to this end alfo did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

:

10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive alfo for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your fakes forgave it in the perfon of Chrift;

11 Left Satan fhotild get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Chrift's gospel, and a door was ppened unto me of the Lord;

13 I had no reft in my fpirit, because

8 How fhall not the ministration of the fpirit be rather glorious?

9 For if the miniftration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the minif tration of righteoufnefs exceed in glory.

10 For even that which was made glo. rious had no glory in this refpect, by reafon of the glory that excelleth :

11 For if that which was done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

12 Seeing then that we have fuch hope, we ufe great plainnefs of speech:

over his face, that the children of Ifrael 13 And not as Mofes, which put a veil could not fedfaftly look to the end of that which is abolished:

16 Nevertheless, when it fall turn to the Lord, the veil fhall be taken away, 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glafs, the glory of the Lord, are changed into the fame image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. CHAP. IV.

1 Paul's fincerity and diligence in preaching, and his troubles for the fame. THEREFORE feeing we have this miniflry, as we have received thercy, we faint not:

16 For which caufe we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

11 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are feen, but at the things which are not feen; for the things which are feen are temporal; but the things which are not feen are eternal.

CHAP. V.

A In bape of immortal glory, 9 and is expectance of it, and of the general judg ment, Paal laboureth to keep a good confcience.

2 But have renounced the hidden things FOR we know that if our earthly house of dishonelly, not walking in craftinets, of his tabernacle were diffutved, we have nor handling the word of God deceitful-a ly; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourfeives to every man's confcience in the light of God.

5 But if our golpel be hid, it is hid to them that are loft:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, left the light of the glorious gospel of Chrift, who is the image of God, should thine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Chritt Jefus the Lord; and ourfelves your fervants for Jefus's fake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darknels, hath thined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowl edge of the glory of God in the face of Jefus Chrit.

7¶But we have this treasure in earthen veffels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

8 We are troubled on every fide, yet not dittrelled; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

9 Perfecuted, but not forfaken; caft down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord jefus, that the life alfo of Jefus might be made manifeft in our body,

building of God, an houre not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan earnestly defiring to be clothed upon with uur houfe which is from heaven:

5 If fo be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened : not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon. that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

5 Now he that hath wrought us for the feltsame thing is God, who alío hath given unto us the earnest of the Spint.

6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilft we are at home in the body, we are abfent from the Lord:

7 For we walk by faith, not by fight: 8 We are confident, I fay, and willing rather to be abfent from the body, and to be prefent with the Lord.

9 ¶ Wherefore, we labour, that wheth er prefent or abfent, we may be accepted of him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment feat of Chris; that every one may receive the things done in our body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the 11 For we which live are alway deliv- Lord, we perfuade men; but we are ered unto death for Jesus' fake, that the made manifelt unto God; and I trust allo life alfo of Jetus might be made manifeftare made manifeft in your consciences. in our mortal flesh.

14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jefus fhall raife up us alfo by Jefus, and hall prefent us with you.

15 For all things are for your fakes,

13 For whether we be befide ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be fober, is for your caule.

14 For the love of Christ contraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead :

1 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for, What fellowship hath righteousnefs with unrighteoufnefs? and, What communion hath light with darkness?

16 Wherefore, henceforth know we no man after the flesh : yea, though we have known Chrift after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we bim no more. 15 And,What concord hath Chrift with 17 Therefore if any man be in Chrif, | Belial ? or, What part hath he that bebe is a new creature: old things are paff-lieveth with an infidel? ed away; behold, all things are become

19 To wit, that God was in Chrift, recenciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trefpaffes unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of recon-ciliation.

20 Now then we are ambaffadors for Chrift, as though God did befeech you by us we pray you in Chrift's tead, be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin; that we might be made the righteoufnefs of God in him.

CHAP. VI.

1 Of Paul's faithfulness in the miniftry. 14 Exhortation to avoid idolaters. WE then, as workers together with bim, beseech you alfo that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

16 And, What agreement hath the temple of God with idols For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath faid, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they hall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, faith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and Í will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my fons and daughters, faith the Lord Almighty.

CHAP. VII.

1 Paul exhorteth to purity, and hereth what comfort be took in aft:tions. HAVING therefore thele promifes, dearly beloved, let us oleanfe ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and fpirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed :

4 But in all things approving ourselves as the minifters of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in neceflities, in diftrelles,

5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our fleth had no reft, but we were troubled on every fide; without were fightings, within were fears.

6 Nevertheless, God, that comforteth thofe that are caft down, comforted us

5 In ftripes in imprifonments intumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; 6 By pureness, by knowledge, by long-by the coming of Titus ; fuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghoft, by love unfeigned,

7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteoufne fs on the right hand and on the left,

8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chaf tened, and not killed:

10 As forrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yer poffeffing all things. Oye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.

12 Ye are not traitened in us, but ye are traitened in your own bowels.

13 Now for a recompenfe in the fame,

7 And not by his coming only, but by the confolation wherewith he wascomfort. ed in you, when he told us your earnest defire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; fo that I rejoiced the more.

8 For though I made you forry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the fame epistle hath made you forry, though it were but for a feafon.

9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made forry, but that ye forrowed to repentance : for ye were made forry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

10 For godly forrow worketh repentance to falvation not to be repented of: but the forrow of the world worketh death.
