CHAP. XX.

5 And Joab gave the fum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Ifrael were a thousand thoufand and an hundred thousand men that drew 4fword and Judah was four hundred threefcore and ten thousand men that drew fword.

AND it came to pafs, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wafted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and befieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerufalem. And Joab fmote Rabbah, and destroyed it.

And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious fiones in it; and it was fet upon David's head and he brought alfo exceeding much spoil out of the city.

3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with faws and with harrows of iron,and with axes. Even fo dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerufalem.

6 But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

7 And God was difpleafed with this thing; therefore he fmote Ifrael.

8 And David faid unto God, I have finned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy fervant; for I have done very foolishly.

9 And the LORD fpake unto Gad, David's feer, faying,

10 Go and tell David, faying, Thus faith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choofe thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

CHAP. XXII.

1 David prepareth for the building of the temple. 6 te inftru&tet Salomon. THEN David faid, This is the house 17 And David faid unto God, Is it not of the LORD God, and this is the altar I that commanded the people to be num. Jof the burnt offering for Ifrael. bered Even I it is that have finned and done evil indeed; but as for thefe fheep, What have they done? Let thine hand, pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's houfe; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

21 And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and faw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with bis face to the ground.

22 Then David faid to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD thou halt grant it me for the full price that the plague may be stayed from the people.

23 And Ornan faid unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen alfo for burnt offerings, and the threshing inftruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all. 24 And king David faid to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without coft.

25 So David gave to Ornan for the place fix hundred (hekels of gold by weight. 25 And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called uponthe LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

7 And David faid to Solomon, My fon, as for me, it was in my mind to build an houfe unto the name of the LORD my God:

8 But the word of the LORD came to me, faying, Thou haft shed blood abundantly, and halt made great wars; thou fhalt not build an houfe unto my name. because thou haft thed much blood upon the earth in my fight.

9 Behold, a fon fhall be born to thee, who shall be a man of reft; and I wil! give him reft from all his enemies round about: for his name fhall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietnefs unto Ifrael in his days.

10 He thall build an houfe for my name; and he fhall be my fon, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Ifrael forever.

11 Now, my fon, the LORD be with thee; and profper thou, and build the houfe of the LORD thy God, as he hath faid of thee.

12 Only the LORD give thee wildom and understanding, and give thee charge an-concerning Ifrael, that thou mayelt keep the law of the LORD thy God.

27 And the LORD commanded the gel; and he put up his fword again into the theath thereof.

17 And the fons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other fons; but the fons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 Of the fons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.

CHAP. XXIII.

SO when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his fon king over Ifrael.

2 And he gathered together all the princes of Ifrael, with the priests and the Levites.

3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 Of which twenty and four thousand were to fet forward the work of the houfe of the LORD and fix thousand were officers and judges :

5 Moreover, four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the inftruments which I made, faid David, to praife therewith.

6 And David divided them into courfes among the fons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7¶Of the Gerthonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.

8 The fons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 The fons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. Thefe were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

20 Of the fons of Uzziel; Micah the firft, and Jefiah the fecond.

21 The fons of Merari: Mahli, and Muthi. The fons of Mahli; Eleazer, and Kish.

22 And Eleazer died, and had no fons, but daughters and their brethren the fons of Kish took them.

23 The fons of Muhi ; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 These were the fons of Levi after the houfe of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls that did the work for the fervice of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.

25 For David faid, The LORD God of Ifrael hath given reft unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerufalem forever;

26 And alfo unto the Levites: they fhall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any veffels of it for the fervice thereof.

27 For by the laft words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

28 Because their office was to wait on the fons of Aaron for the fervice of the houle of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the houfe of God;

9 Both for the fhew bread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the Ja-unleavened cakes, and forthat which is ba ked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and fize

10 And the fons of Shimei were, hath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the fons of Shimei.

11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the fecond: but Jeuth and Beriah had not many fons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's houfe.

12 The fons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

CHAP. XXIV.

2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the prieft's office.

3 And David distributed them, both Zadok of the fons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the fons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their fervice.

4 And there were more chiefmen found of the fons of Eleazar than of the fons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the fons of Eleazer there were 11xteen chief men of the houfeof their fathers, and eight among the fons of Ithamar according to the houfe of their fathers.

5 Thus were they divided by lot, one fort with another; for the governors of the fanctuary, and governors of the boufe of God, were of the fons of Eleazar, and of the fons of Ithamar.

20 And the rest of the fons of Levi were befe: of the fons of Amram, Shubael: of the fons of Shubael; Jehdeiah. 21 Concerning Rehabiah: of the fons of Rehabiah, the firft was Isfhiah. 22 Of the Izharites; Shelomoth: of the fons of Shelomoth; Jahath.

23 And the fons of Hebron: Jeriah the firft, Amariah the fecond, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

24 Of the fons of Uzziel; Michah: of the fons of Michah; Shamir.

25 The brother of Michah was Ishiah of the fons of Isthiah; Zechariah. 26 The fons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi : the fons of Jaaziah; Beno. 27 The fons of Merari by Jaaziah; Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri. 28 Of Mahli came Eleazar, who had no fons.

29 Concerning Kish: the fon of Kish was Jerahineel.

30 The fons alfo of Mubi ; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the fons of the Levites after the house of their fathers.

31 Thefe likewife caft lots over against their brethren the fons of Aaron, in the prefence of David the king, and Zadok, 6 And Shemaiah the fon of Nethaneel and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathe fcribe, one of the Levites, wrote them thers of the priests and Levites, even before the king, and the princes, and Za-the principal fathers over against their dok the priest, and Ahimelech the fon younger biethren. of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar.

7 Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the fecond to Jedaiah,

9 The fifth to Malchijah, the fixth Mijamin,

10 The feventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,

11 The ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah,

12 The eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakin,

is The thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jefhebeab,

CHAP. XXV. 1 The number and offices of the fingers. 8 Their divifion by lot into four and twenty orders.

MOREOVER, David and the captains of the hoft feparated to the fervice of the fons of Afaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who fhould prophefy with harps, with pfalteries, and with cymbals and the number of the workmen according to their fervice was:

2 Of the fons of Afaph; Zaccur, and Jofeph, and Nethaniah, and Afarelah, the fons of Afaph, under the hands of Afaph, which prophefied according to the order of the king.

3 Of Jeduthun: the fons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jefhaiah, Hafh

14 The fifteenth to Bilgah, the fix-abiah, and Mattithiah, fix, under the teenth to Immer, hands of their father Jeduthun, who

15 The feventeenth to Hezir, the eigh-prophefied with a harp, to give thanks teenth to Aphfes,

16 The nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel,

17 The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul,

and to praife the LORD.

4 Of Heman: the fons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Jombeka18 The three and twentieth to Delaiah,fhah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

19 There were the orderings of them the king's feer in the words of God, te

Chap. xxvi. lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen fons and three daughters.

6 All these were under the hands of their father for fong in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, pfalteries, and harps for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Afaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were inftructed in the fongs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

8 And they caft lots, ward against ward, as well the fmall as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

9 Now the firft lot came forth for Afaph to Jofeph: the fecond to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and fons were twelve:

10 The third to Zaceur, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

11 The fourth to Izri, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

12 The fifth to Nethaniah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

13 The fixth to Bukkiah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

14 The feventh to Jesharelah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve: 15 The eighth to Jeihaiah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

16 The ninth to Mattaniah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

17 The tenth to Shimei, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

18 The eleventh to Azareel, be, his fons, and his brethren were twelve:

19 The twelfth to Hahabiah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve: 20 The thirteenth to Shubael, te, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

21 The fourteenth to Mattithiah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve: 22 The fifteenth to Jerimoth, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

25 The fixteenth to Hananiah, be, his fons, and his brethren, were twelve:

CONCERNING the divifions of the porters of the Korhites was Mefhelemiah the fon of Kore, of the fons of Afaph. 2 And the fons of Methelemiah were, Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the fecond, Zebadiahthethird, Jathnielthefourth, S Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the fixth, Elioenai the feventh.

▲ Moreover, the fons of Obededom were Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the fecond, Joáh the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth,

5 Ammiel the fixth, Iffachar the feventh, Peulthai the eighth : for God bleffed him.

6 Alfo unto Shemaiah his fon were fons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.

7 The fons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu, and Semachiah.

8 All thefe of the fons of Obededom : they and their fons and their brethren, able men for firength for the fervice, were threescore and two of Obededom: 9 And Mefhclemiah had fons and brethren, ftrong men, eighteen.

10 Alfo Hofah of the children of Merari, had fons: Simri the chief, (for though he was not the first born, yet his father made him the chief,)

11 Hilkiah the fecond, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth all the fons [and brethren of Hofah were thirteen.

12 Among thefe, were the divifions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minifter in the houfe of the LORD.

13 And they caft lots as well the fmall as the great, according to the houfe of their fathers, for every gate.

14 And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his fon, a wife counfellor, they caft lots and his lot came out northward.

15 To Obededom fouthward; and to his fons the house of Asuppim.

16 To Shuppim and Hofah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the caufeway of the going up, ward
