A new edition of the

CLINICAL GUIDE,

OR POCKET REPERTORY

For the treatment of ACUTE AND CHRONIC DISEASES. By G. H. G. JAHR, M. D. Translated by CHARLES J. HEMPEL. M. D.

Second American revised and enlarged edition, from the third German edition, enriched by the addition of the NEW REMEDIES, by SAMUEL LILIENTHAL. M. D.

The first edition of this valuable Pocket Companion having been out of print for some time, repeated inquiries for copies of the old edition and urgent requests for a new one have induced the publishers to bring out a second edition.

It is needless to speak of the value of the original work. It has appeared in Germany in the third improved and enlarged edition, and has been translated into various languages.

This second American edition is the third German clothed in the English language, to which the American Editor has made suitable additions from every proper source. The New Remedies have also received due consideration.

The work is a small octavo book of 624 pages, substantially bound and well finished.

AMERICAN HOMEOPATHIC OBSERVER, 1870.

We close the sixth volume with a larger subscription list
than we had at commencement of the year, and have many other
encouragements, for which we are most grateful.

Our readers may look for the January number, 1870, in due season, and we trust that we shall be able to gratify them with the best number yet issued. When the January number of this year was sent out, it was thought by some that the subsequent issues would not be equal to it, yet we have been enabled to improve upon it very much indeed; and expect to publish the new volume, (Vol. VII). in every department, superior to preceding ones. To enable us to make the OBSERVER altogether worthy of its national name we must increase its subscription. If our friends, and medical students, will devote some little time to this we think that they will be doing a good work; that we may bear a share of the expense we will remit fifty cents in cash for each NEW subscriber who will pay in advance for 1870, or send two copies for $3.25, or three copies for $5.00, or ten copies for $15.00, and will send to one address or separate addresses as may be desired.

The above cut represents the very great improvement on HOCKERT'S FAMOUS SUPPORTER. Even previous to this latest improvement, this instrument had achieved a success never equalled by any other. As now presented, it is the most perfect Uterine Supporter ever invented. convenience, ease, readiness of application, efficiency and durability, it is unrivalled. In this improvement, the small hooks that were so liable to break are substituted by a pivot, which allows easy motion of the front pad, which is now hard rubber, and can not be broken.

Dr. Bullock's preparation entitled SWEET QUININE is made from the best Peruvian Bark, and has positive and reliable tonic and anti-periodic power as the common bitter Quinine. Unlike the latter, wever, it has no bitterness, but a sweet taste instead. This important advantage constitutes its periority for use by all-adults or children-who object to the nauseous bitterness of common. inine.

Sweet Quinine

not offered as a substitute for common, bitter Quinine, but to replace its use, representing N roughly-may be trusted in the most important and obstinate cases.

Sweet Quinine

to be used in all Intermittent or other Diseases requiring Quinine or Peruvian Bark.

SOLD IN BOTTLES CONTAINING ONE OUNCE. Prices will always be at least ten per cent. less than common Quinine.

SVAPNIA, or Bigelow's Purified Opium.

An Important Substitute for Morphia.

SVAPNIA is a new and desirable form of Opium, purified from all inert matter, such as vegetable v, etc., and with the Pappaverine Thebaine and Narcotine of the drug removed entirely.

It represents the Anodyne and Soporific properties of Opium completely, whereas Morphia is but e of them. The alkaloids Morphia, Narceia and Codeia, in this purified Opium are in the combiions existing naturally in the drug.

It is ade by assay: hence its uniformity is as great as that of Morphia, a very great advantage or crude Opium.

It is solid and permanent, in scales like Citrate of Iron, can be readily powdered or solved in cold ter. Patients will bear the Svapnia who cannot tolerate Opium or Morphia. Its effects are more thing and hypnotic than either.

Those compelled to use Opium habitually will find this much preferable to crude Opium.

Medium dose for an adult one grain.

SOLD IN OUNCE AND HALF-OUNCE BOTTLES.

Price will always be three-fourths less than that of Morphia.

The titles of Purified Opium, SVAPNIA, (from the Sanscrit, signifying sleep) and of SWEET ININE, are copyrighted as Trade Marks.
