ample laboratory advantages, when every student, at the expense of a few months' study, and a few dollars, may become well informed in the rudiments of chemistry, it is a shame that any one should graduate as M. D. without a practical knowledge of this science sufficient to enable him to carry out at least the simpler processes of analysis, which will be of such advantage to him in practice. The present work is well up to the times, containing the latest discoveries -though in chemistry, pre-eminently, what to-day is new, to-morrow is rendered passé by later developments. The publisher has taken every pains to make the work typographically perfect. A. Among the many announcements of valuable medical works which we potice Messrs. Lindsay & BlaKiston, of Philadelphia, are bringing out, is a volume of Surgical Reports and Clinical Lectures, by the medical and surgical staff of the Pennsylvania Hospital. The reputation of this, the oldest institution of the kind in the United States, as well as the character of the publishers, warrant us in anticipating a very valuable and interesting volume. It will be freely illustrated both by lithograph and other illustrations, and being the pioneer volume of the kind in this country, we bespeak for it a very favorable reception. It will be issued about the 1st of January, 1868. The same gentlemen will publish about the same time a translation of BOUCHARDAT'S Annuaire de Therapeutique Pharmacologie, etc., etc., edited by M. J. De Rosset, M, D., adjunct to the Professor of Chemistry, University of Maryland. The great practical value of this volume, which has been edited for many years by the distinguished Professor of Hygiene, etc., to the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, bas insured for it an extensive circulation on the continent of Europe, and will no doubt procure for it a large sale in this country.
