(HESE lessons were originally prepared for the children
in my day-school, and given as part of the religious instruction.
They were popular with the children, and soon found their way, one by one, to the Sunday
school, where they were well received by teachers and scholars. A little modification made them suitable for Sunday-school addresses, and during the last few years they have been in use for anniversaries and special services for the young.
In various parts of Lancashire, Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire they have been given to large congregations of children, until the claims on my services became so numerous I had scarcely ever a Sunday to call my own.
At length I was requested to publish a volume of lessons for Sunday-school teachers and scholars. In yielding to this request I thought it right to publish them exactly as they are given, with all my own peculiarities of illustration and language. It is impossible
