The light reading which so easily falls into the hands of the young, by means of many of our city publications, gives a false coloring to life, turns its earnest realities into romance, and leaves blight, morbidness and disappointThe Guardian will discourage light reading. It ment in its fearful wake. will be the aim of the Editor to make it true, pure, fresh, healthy and animated, as the morning of life in which the young have their being. It will seek to encourage self-culture among the young, and lead to the useful improvement of leisure time. It will urge the claims of early piety, and seek to aid in making it intelligent, consistent, and lovely. Having no denominational or party bias, The Guardian advocates no religious peculiarities, but moves in the free element of its motto-" LIFE, LIGHT, Love." The Guardian enters on its SIXTH VOLUME with the January number. It contains thirty-two pages monthly, making a handsome volume of three hundred and eighty-four pages at the end of the year. NOW IS THE TIME TO SUBSCRIBE. The Guardian has worked its way silently upward ever since its commencement, and it is still gaining in favor and, we believe, also in merit. The Publisher therefore respectfully makes the following requests: 1.
