PHYSICIAN'S HAND-BOOK.

BY WILLIAM ELMER, M.D.

Bound in English Morocco, Red Edges, Pocket-Book Form. Price $2.00 and $1.75.

THIRTEENTH YEAR OF PUBLICATION.

This NEW EDITION of the "Hand-Book" has been completely rewritten and restereotyped throughout. Many valuable improvements and new features have been introduced and corrections made.

The many valuable suggestions that we have received from the profession in relation to the "Hand Book," has enabled the Author to profit by others' experience in arranging and perfecting the work. So that we trust it will now more fully meet the wants of the profession generally, than any other work of the kind.

Without materially enlarging the size of the book, it is now arranged for Sixty-four Patients, besides containing a special Diagnostic Record for Every Month in the year.

This work possesses advantages peculiarly its own, embracing the conveniences of a Diary with those of a manual, which serves the purposes of a Prompter or Remembrancer to the Physician. The plan for the Registry of Practice is new, and for simplicity and completeness the most thorough of any thing of the kind.

IT CONTAINS:

1. A Classification of Diseases, with their distinguishing symptoms, and a statement of the diseases from which the given one must be diagnosed, the complications and sequels; together with figures referring to some of the most important remedies indicated in each disease.

2. An Alphabetical List of all Known Remedial Agents, ineluding many new ones not named in the various Dispensatories, together with their Preparations, Medical properties, and doses, revised every year and latest discoveries added.

3. A Full Classified List of Poisons, with their Symptoms, Antidotes, and Treatment. 4. Treatment of Asphyxia.

5. Diagnostic Examination of the Urine.

6. Short Chapter on the Pulse.

7. Abbreviations and Definitions of the Properties of Remedial Agents, Medicinal Weights and Measures.

8. Diagnostic Record.

9, Index to the common names of Remedial Agents.

10. List of Incompatibles.

11. Examples of Extemporaneous Prescriptions and Abbreviations used in writing the same, together with the Latin terms and phrases translated into English.

12. A Register of Daily Practice for Sixty-four Patients, and a blank for each for every day in the year; so that an account may be kept, with the greatest facility, of the number of visits made, of the Medicines delivered, office practice, surgical and obstetrical cases and the amount charged for the same.

13. A Memorandum of Cases and Treatment for future reference; thus enabling the physician to preserve and accumulate the record of his past experience.

The Book is handsomely bound in morocco, with a tuck, and contains a pocket for loose memoranda, prescription papers, &c.

Physicians will find this little work a means of saving both time and money; and as a case-book and visiting-list superior to any of its class.

Revised annually, price $2.00. "Hand-Book" and "Braithwaite,” $4.50. Book" and "Chemical News," $6.50. The three works one year, same address, $8.50 pre The Physician's Hand-Book, without printed matter, in uniform binding, price $175 Published by W. A. TOWNSEND & ADAMS.

The Most Popular and Useful Issue of the Foreign Scientific Press.

For more than a quarter of a century this valuable Journal has represented the progress of Chemistry and cognate sciences. It is devoted to Practical Chemistry in all its applications to Pharmacy, Medicine, Manufactures, Photography, and the Arts; also embracing whatever tends to elucidate new discoveries and advances made in Physical Science, comprising Mineralogy, Metallurgy, Mining, Mechanics, Electricity, and the collateral branches of Science. Its foremost rank as the leading representative of these interests has been conceded, until it is quoted as the first authority in the scientific world.

The Chemical News numbers among its regular contributors every EMINENT CHEMIST and PHYSICIST in EUROPE and AMERICA. The Reports of the LEARNED SOCIETIES have always been a distinguishing feature of this popular Journal. From the first its readers have had presented a complete account of the proceedings of the Chemical, Royal, and Pharmaceutical Societies, and the Royal Institution.

Among the recently introduced features of THE CHEMICAL NEWS, special attention is directed to the "CONTEMPORARY SCIENTIFIC PRESS," and "CHEMICAL NOTICES FROM FOREIGN SOURCES." The former section purports to give as soon as possible after publication the title of every CHEMICAL PAPER IN THE WORLD, the latter section giving a condensed account of every IMPORTANT PAPER as soon as published.

These new features will be found of great service and interest to Chemists, Druggists, Physicians, Manufacturers, and of value to Pharmaceutists. The REPORTS of the meetings of the French Academy and the graphic pictures of "FOREIGN SCIENCE," are features also lately introduced. While its importance to CHEMISTS, DRUGGISTS, PHYSICIANS, COLLEGES, APOTHECARIES, MANUFAOTURERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, ASSAYERS, DYERS, and all following scientific pursuits, is universally acknowledged, the high price of the original journal has necessarily limited its circulation in America. The subscription to the London issue is TWELVE DOLLARS A YEAR; the price of the American reprint is Five Dollars per annum, post-paid. No interested class can now afford to be without this indispensable Repertory of Practical Science. The American edition, in form, size, type, and engravings, is a fac-simile of the original, but a change is made in the TIME of publication, issuing it in MONTHLY instead of weekly numbers. Each compact quarto volume will have a COPIOUS INDEX, forming a complete treasury of the development of Scientific Progress throughout the world.

Medical Purposes.

These are the only Electro Medical apparatus which have a strong direct current, as well as a to-and-fro current. A direct current without intensity, in a Medical point of view, is of no value at all. The direct current, at its negative pole, is powerfully Tonic and Contractive, while at its positive pole it is diametrically the reverse. It draws all metallic poisons from the human system at its negative pole, and when a tonic or contractive action is required, as in hemor rhages, and other relaxed conditions of the body, closes the capillaries at once, stops the effusion of blood, and gives vigor to the system. This machine is universally recommended by all leading Physicians in the United States and Canadas, as having double the Magnetic power of any other Machine.

This apparatus is self-operating, and is in a neat portable BlackWalnut Case. Price, with Single Cup Battery, $18. Double Cup, $20. Send for circular.
