The 36 Characters from I to P were formed in the fifth century; the last two 0 and 2 were introduced into the Armenian Alphabet inthe twelfth century.

A syllable is an articulate sound, as wn, ar. uw, na. qup, tar. шq, aghd. np, worm. pup, part. quin, karn. 75g, temk. qop, zor. pq, unt. pp., tiv. sud, zham. զօր, ընդ, թիւ, [“, looyce. dшn, dzar. 4′′, gal. Sur, hire. ¿wju, tzine. Lun, jar. Swjp, mire. ¿, shoon. ¿wp, tchar. 2p, tshoor or chiure. upp, soorp. p, der. pu, ram. gm, tz00. it, ute or evt. pung, park.

A syllable may be also composed of six letters, as ubudeg, siampk. 2-PR, chiurpk.

Two or three consonants are sometimes formed before or after a vowel.

Double consonants at the end of a syllable are pronounced short, as upp, darr. pupp, caghack.
