God: unto thee will I pray (b); hide not thyself from my supplication (c); in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness; and enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight shall no man living be justified (d).

O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face unto thee (e), for thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look upon iniquity(f); yea, the heavens are not clean in thy sight (g); and the angels thou chargest with folly (h). How then shall man be just with God (i)? Behold, I am vile! what shall I answer thee (j)? I have sinned! what shall

I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men (k)? I will yet be more vile, and will be base in mine own sight (7). For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good, I find not. For the good that I would, I do not, but the evil which I would not, that I do (m). For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity, for it is great (n). I have gone astray like a lost sheep (o). Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my soul is vexed. Return, O Lord, deliver my soul; O save me for thy mercy's sake (p).

me from my secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins, lest they get the dominion over me* (q). Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me: cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy spirit from me. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise (r).

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee (s): even hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest forgive (t).

thee, let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer which I pray before thee, confessing the sins which I have sinned against thee (a).

I have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts, and from thy judgments (b). Against thee have I sinned, and done evil in thy sight (c); for I have not walked in thy ways, neither have been obedient unto thy law (d): wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes (e).
