the light and the sun (p): thou hast appointed the moon for seasons; the sun knoweth his going down(q). In thy hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind (r); and if this night my soul shall be required of me (s), into thine hand I commit my spirit, for thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth (t).

PRAYER FOR THE ADOLESCENT.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Prov. i. 7.

O THOU whose meat it was to do the will of Him that sent thee (a), and who wast in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (b), be thou the guide of my youth (c). Make me to know the God of my fathers, and to serve him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind (d); to honour my

father and my mother (e); to obey them that have the rule over me, and submit myself (f), and to be clothed with humility (g): so that if the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; and if he reprove me, it shall be as an excellent oil, which shall not break my head (h). Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full and deny thee, and say, "Who is the Lord?" or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain (¿). Incline not my heart to any evil thing; for if I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me (j). Grant that I may flee youthful lusts (k), order
