me for thine own sake, and out of thy most tender compassion towards

me.

Oh, that I could say I had made any return suitable to thy great mercies; and followed Thee with all my heart, and all my soul, and all my mind, in godly sincerity; how small a part of my ways have I walked as in thy presence; how great a portion of my time have I passed in vanity, or in seeking only those things which cannot profit, nor deliver; for they are vain; and loved the world, and the things that are in the world, more than those things which are of my Heavenly Father, and not of the world.

Blessed be thy holy Name, that thy Spirit did not always strive with me in vain, and that I have not utterly fallen in every temptation.

Pardon me, for Jesus Christ's sake, all my wilful sins, and those secret faults in which I have so often offended Thee, through ignorance and negligence, and forgetfulness of thy holy word. Let that love, which can forgive me so many offences, constrain me to live more and more to Him, who died for me when I was dead in sin, and rose again that I might be able to rise to righteousness, and become a partaker of the glory which shall be revealed hereafter. Grant that the remembrance of my transgressions this day, which I do especially lament and bewail before Thee, may make me more watchful against the same occasions of sin for the time to come, that I may not be remiss in my resistance of the cruel enemy of my soul, nor ignorant of his devices, nor faint in striving against

the power of this world. Though I am without strength, let thy grace, O blessed Saviour, be sufficient for me in my heaviest trials, and let me remember that without thy grace the least temptation will overcome my faith, and lead me into worse dangers and opportunities of sin. Oh, merciful God, if I sin through my want of care and circumspection, let me have an advocate with Thee, Jesus Christ, lest I fall into such sin as may not be forgiven in this world, nor in the world that is to come. Let the intercessions of thy beloved Son prevail in my behalf, that I may instantly turn from all that I have done amiss; and hear, before it is too late, the word that calls me to repentance.

Let me turn to thy mercy this night, from all the troubles and cares

I

which Thou, O Heavenly Father, hast not planted. Deliver me from any snare with which I may have entangled myself, through my inordinate desire of gain, or my over carefulness for my temporal provision of this present life. Impress upon my heart that I am a stranger upon earth; that my days are but as a shadow that departeth. Here I am weary and heavy laden, and no sooner rest, than I must be weary again. Lord, I bow down before Thee in lowest humility, that I may have peace from the pride of life, and from all the mortification and troubles of the confidence which is placed any where but in Thee.

Let me be blessed of thy Holy Spirit, the Comforter, and commit myself unto thy gracious care when I sink down in the lowly posture

of death. In Thee, most merciful Redeemer, let me find rest from my labours. Lord Jesus, receive my spirit; extend thy mercy unto all mankind, and to those who are in need, sickness, or any other adversity; look graciously upon my dear kindred and friends; upon all who pray for me, or desire, or especially need my prayer, who may have sinned against Thee and I know it not. Keep us under the shadow of thy wings from all fears that might trouble us, and be our refuge from all sinful thoughts, and from all other afflictions, for the sake of thy beloved Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
