3 When in refreshing sleep I lay,
His mercy kept all ills away:
Renewed in strength again I wake,
And of his daily gifts partake.

4 Salvation, glory, praise to Thee,
Whom through the eye of faith we see
Enthroned in mercy's bright abode,
At once our Brother, and our God.

60.

EVENING. (Brentwood.)

1 Glory to Thee my God this night
For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me King of Kings,
Beneath thy own almighty wings.

2 Forgive me Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ills that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and Thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may

3 Teach me to live that I

be.

may dread

The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die that so I may
Rise glorious at the judgment day.

EVENING. (Milton.)

1 My God, how endless is thy love!
Thy gifts are every evening new ;
And morning mercies from above,
Gently distil like early dew.

2 Thoy spread'st the curtains of the night,
Great Guardian of my sleeping hours!
Thy sovereign word restores the light,
And quickens all my drowsy powers.

3 I yield my powers to thy command,
To Thee I consecrate my days;
Perpetual blessings from thy haud
Demand perpetual songs of praise,

EVENING. (Balbec.)

1 Again the grateful hour returns
To leave the world and its concerns;
Yet ere I seek my nightly rest
The God of glory shall be blessed.

2 His power this day my health preserved,
And all my limbs with vigour nerved;
'Twas He that all my wants descried-
"Twas He my daily bread supplied.

3 He held before my favoured eyes
A prospect far beyond the skies.

Faith, hope, and love by Him were given
To bless me on my road to Heaven.

4 Thy mercies, Lord, how unconfined!
How quick they rush upon my mind!
E'en time itself no bound shall be,
They flow thro' all eternity.

5 How weak, how worthless is the praise
Which from this sinful dust I raise.
Yet pure and glorious as Thou art,
I feel thy answer in my heart.

63. BAPTISM. (Rockingham.)

1 Lord may this infant, brought to Thee,
From all the power of sin be free:
Born of thy spirit make him thine,
An heir of happiness divine.

2 In him may worldly feelings die ;
Raise up his thought to things on high:
And as his days and years progress,
Prosper his soul in holiness.

3 O grant that he may draw from Thee
The power, the strength, the victory
To triumph o'er the world below,
O'er flesh, and hell, and every foe.

4 On him be heavenly grace conferred
And all our prayers for him be heard.
Thro' Jesu's merits, may he rise,
To reign in bliss beyond the skies.

64. LORD'S SUPPER. (St. Anne's)

1 According to thy gracious word
In meek humility;

This will I do, my gracious Lord;
I will remember Thee.

2 Thy body broken for my sake,
My bread from heaven shall be,
'Thy testamental cup I'll take.
And thus remember Thee.

3 Can I Gethsemane forget,
Or there thy conflict see,
Thine agony and bloody sweat,
And not remember Thee ?

*

4 When to the cross I turn mine eyes, And rest on Calvary,

O Lamb of God, my sacrifice!
I must remember Thee.

5 Remember Thee, and all thy pains,
And all thy love to me:

Yes! while a pulse or breath remains,
Will I remember Thee.

65.

LORD'S SUPPER. (Abridge.)

1 Lord Jesus, God of grace and love, Revealed on Calvary,

Thou callest from thy throne above,
"This day remember me."

2 I come, Lord Jesus, to fulfil
Thy last divine command;
O may I ever do thy will,
And own thy guiding hand.

3 I come, Lord Jesus at thy call,
Thy saving grace I need;
Convicted at thy cross I fall,
And there my ransom read.

4 I come, Lord Jesus, to thy feast,
Unworthy though I be;

On thy almighty arm I rest,

And draw my strength from Thee.
