Palatinoids are small, elegant cachets, consisting of a soluble covering of glycerine jujube, which encloses the pure uncompressed drug, or in some cases liquids. Palatinoids really dissolve rapidly in the alimentary tract. There is no certainty of Pills or Tablets dissolving. Place a Palatinoid in a little warm water, and in a few minutes it will open like an oyster, and the medicine will be discharged. Immediately on reaching the stomach the jujube coating becomes everted, and the drug is spread out over the gastric mucous membrane, so that absorption at once begins and the therapeutic effect is prompt and certain. Ronald Ross, F.R.C.S. (Malarial Fever, its cause, prevention and treatment, page 57), says:-" "Pills and tablets are very apt to harden in the tropics, in which case they may pass through the intestine without being absorbed at all.
