Sweet in after-life was the remembrance of this scene. Marcus has not yet reached the zenith of his fame. While realizing his highest anticipations of social love, domestic happiness in all its richest fulness has not lured him entirely from the path of ambition, or led him to neglect the powers of eloquence, and the skill as a lawyer and a pleader, which, while they lead him into spheres of action commensurate with the desires of a powerful and highly cultivated intellect, add at the same time, by contrast, a new zest to the recurring enjoyment of domestic joys.
