maketh my way perfect. 33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places. 34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great. 36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; that my feet did not slip. 39 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. 41 They cried, but there was none to save them: the Lord, but he answered them not. hast delivered me from the strivings of the people: and thou hast made me the head of the heathen : a people whom I have not known shall serve me. 44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit them selves unto me.

PSALM XIX.

even unto

43 Thou

Perfection of God's Works and
Word.

THE heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament sheweth his handy work. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world: in them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. 6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimo ny of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey, and the honey comb. 11 Moreover, by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keepback thy servant also from presumptuous sins, let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

PSALM XXII. Prayer in Distress.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 20 my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. 19 But be not thou far from me, O Lord; O my strength, haste thee to help me. 22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. 23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. 24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted: neither hath he hid his

face from him, but when he cried unto him, he heard. 25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. 26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. 27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. 28 For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations. 29 All they that be fat upon earth, shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust, shall bow before him, and none can keep alive his own soul. 30 A seed shall serve him, . it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. 31 They shall come, and 'shall declare his righ teousness unto a people that shall be born that he hath done this.

PSALM XXIII. XXIV. Confidence in God.

THE Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies : thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

1 The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 3 Who shall ascend into the

Psalms, hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. 7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? the Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

PSALM XXV. Confession and Supplication. UNTO thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 20 my God, I trust in thee, let me not be ashamed; let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed; let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 4 Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation, on thee do I wait all the day, 6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies, and thy loving kindnesses: for they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me, for thy goodness' sake, O Lord. 8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, unto such as keep his covenant, and his testimonies. 11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity: for it is great. 12 What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. 13 His soul shall dwell at ease: and his seed shall inherit the earth, 14 The secret of the Lord is

with them that fear him: and he will shew them his covenant. 20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in thee. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me : for I wait on thee. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

PSALM XXVI. Conscious Integrity.

JUDGE me, O Lord, for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the Lord: therefore I shall not slide. 2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. 3 For thy loving-kindness is before mine eyes and I have walked in thy truth. 4 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. 5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers : and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord. 7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works. 8 Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. 9 Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men: 10 In whose hands, is mischief: and their right hand is full of bribes. 11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me. 12 My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the Lord.

PSALM XXVII. Faith in God's favour.

THE Lord is my light, and my salvation, whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4 One thing have I desired of the
