2 ANTICIPATION OF AN ODE FOR THE NEW YEAR.
'Tis his to drive the murky power
Of Pestilence from human haunt;
And hide their foreheads gaunt:
'Mid meteors, clouds, and glare,
And dissipates to air.
The prostrate earth revives,
With new-born ardour strives.
All round and sound.
Flings taint and uproar o'er the ball,
Famine and frenzy, death and thrall,
Leads on the dread refulgent state
Where'er th' electric tempest fiames,
See, Gallia's legions melt to air :
And Earth spins on, fresh balanc'd-to a hair.
AN ECCENTRIC ODE ON THE NEW YEAR,
(From the Day.] " ARISE ye spirits of the air,
A storm of pestilence prepare;
And moan their blasted toil;
Shall rot within the soil.
shall die before the old;
And yet-or ere this spell be done,
Took wing, his bidding to perform:
The fell blasphemer hears,
The thunder of the spheres ;
Back to the regions of despair;
Europe ! by slavish fear appallid,
And, impious, boast the arm of Fate
Yes--clad in Victory's crimson' pride,
To Egypt-to the Holy Land,
In tropic fervors glow.”
Shall swear the boast is vain;
And drives him from the main;

the habit of arranging the affairs of disordered agency concerns, the correspondents of the house not being satisfied with the manner in which their concerns have been managed. He must be fully qualified to reconcile contradictions—and to prove any thing that may be required. As the firm, although fully satisfied of the propriety of their own conduct on every point, have hitherto been unable to think of any arguments which are likely to be satisfactory 10 their correspondents (with whom they are to have a meeting on the 19th of this month), the principal duty that will devolve on such a person will be, to endeavour to furnish the firm with such reasons and excuses as may satisfy their correspondents, and in
