FOR EASTER DAY.

First Hymn.

SINCE Christ, our passover, is slain

A sacrifice for all;

Let all with thankful hearts agree
To keep the festival:

Not with the leaven, as of old,
Of sin and malice fed;
But with unfeign'd sincerity,
And truth's unleaven'd bread.

Christ, being rais'd by pow'r divine,
And rescu'd from the grave,
Shall die no more; death shall on him
No more dominion have.

For that he died, 'twas for our sins
He once vouchsaf'd to die;

But that he lives, he lives to God
For all eternity.

So count yourselves as dead to sin,
But graciously restor'd,
And made henceforth alive to God,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom we adore,
Be glory; as it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.

FOR EASTER DAY.
Second Hymn.

HRIST from the dead is rais'd, and made

For as by man came death, by man
Did resurrection come.

For as in Adam all mankind
Did guilt and death derive,
So by the righteousness of Christ
Shall all be made alive.

If then ye risen are with Christ,
Seek only how to get

The things that are above, where Christ
At God's right hand doth sit.

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom heav'n's triumphant host,
And suff'ring saints on earth adore,
Be glory; as in ages past,
As now it is, and so shall last,

When time itself shall be no more.

FOR THE SACRAMENT.

ΜΥ
Y God, and is thy table spread,
And doth thy cup with love o'erflow!
Thither be all thy children led,
And let them all thy sweetness know.
Hail, sacred feast, which Jesus makes,
Rich banquet of his flesh and blood!
Thrice happy he who here partakes

That sacred stream, that heav'nly food.
Why are its dainties all in vain

Before unwilling hearts display'd? Was not for you the victim slain?

Are you forbid the children's bread?
O! let thy table honour'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests!
And may each soul salvation see,
That here its sacred pledges tastes.
Let crowds approach, with hearts prepar'd,
With hearts inflam'd let all attend;
Nor, when we leave our Father's board,
The pleasure or the profit end.
Receive thy dying churches, Lord,

And bid our drooping graces live;
And more, that energy afford,

A Saviour's blood alone can give.

FOR THE MORNING.

AWAKE, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run;
Shake off dull sloth, and early rise
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

Redeem thy mispent moments past,
And live this day as if the last;
Thy talents to improve take care;
For the great day thyself prepare.
Let all thy converse be sincere,
Thy conscience as the noon-day clear;
For God's all-seeing eye surveys
Thy secret thoughts, thy works and ways.
Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart,
And with the angels bear thy part;
Who all night long unwearied sing
High glory to th' eternal King.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, angelick host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

WHOLE NUMBER OF THE PSALMS.

AGAINST all those that strive with me

As pants the hart for cooling streams
At length, by certain proofs, 'tis plain -
Behold, O God, how heathen hosts
Bless God, my soul; thou, Lord, alone -
Bless God, ye servants that attend -
Defend me, Lord, from shame -
Do thou, O God, in mercy help
Deliver me, O Lord my God

For thee, O God, our constant praise
From my youth up, may Israel say
From lowest depths of woe -
For ever bless'd be God the Lord -

God is our refuge in distress
Give ear, thou Judge of all the earth
God in the great assembly stands
God's temple crowns the holy mount
How blest is he who ne'er consents -
How num'rous, Lord, of late are grown
How long wilt thou forget me, Lord -
He's bless'd whose sins have pardon gain'd
Happy the man whose tender care
Have mercy, Lord, on me
Hear, O my people; to my law
Hold not thy peace, O Lord our God
He that has God his guardian made -
How good and pleasant must it be
How blest are they who always keep
Had not the Lord (may Israel say)
How vast must their advantage be
Judge me, O Lord, for I the paths
I'll celebrate thy praises, Lord -
I waited meekly for the Lord
Just Judge of heav'n, against my foes
In vain, O man of lawless might
In thee I put my steadfast trust
In Judah the Almighty's known
Jehovah reigns, let all the earth

Jehovah reigns, let therefore all
In deep distress I oft have cried

Lord, hear the voice of my complaint
Lord, who's the happy man that may
Let all the just to God with joy
Let all the list'ning world attend
Lord, save me, for thy glorious Name
Lord, hear my cry, regard my pray'r
Lord, hear the voice of my complaint
Let all the lands with shouts of joy
Let God, the God of battle, rise -
Lord, let thy just decrees the king
Lord, thou hast granted to thy land
Lord, not to us, we claim no share
Let David, Lord, a constant place
Lord, hear my pray'r, and to my cry
My God, my God, why leav'st thou me
My crafty foe, with flatt'ring art -
My soul for help on God relies
My soul, inspir'd with sacred love
My soul with grateful thoughts of love
No change of times shall ever shock -

O Lord, thou art my righteous judge
O Lord, my God, since I have plac'd
O thou, to whom all creatures how
O Lord, my rock, to thee I cry
O Lord, our fathers oft have told -
O all ye people clap your hands
O God, who hast our troops dispers'd
O God, my gracious God, to thee
O Lord, to my relief draw near
O Israel's shepherd, Joseph's guide
O God of hosts, the mighty Lord
O Lord, the Saviour and defence
O God, to whom revenge belongs
O come, loud anthems let us sing-
Of mercy's never-failing spring
O render thanks, and bless the Lord
O render thanks to God above
O God, my heart is fully bent -
O God, whose former mercies make-
O praise the Lord, for he is good
O'twas a joyful sound to hear
On thee, who dwell'st above the skies
O Lord, I am not proud of heart -
O praise the Lord with one consent -
O praise the Lord, and thou, my soul
O praise the Lord with hymns of joy
O praise ye the Lord-
O praise the Lord in that blest place

Since I have plac'd my trust in God
Since godly men decay, O Lord
Sure wicked fools must needs suppose
Speak, O ye judges of the earth
Save me, O God, from waves that roll
Sing to the Lord a new-made song
Sing to the Lord a new-made song
Thy dreadful anger, Lord, restrain
To celebrate thy praise, O Lord -
Thy presence why withdraw'st thou, Lord
To my just plea and sad complaint -
The heav'ns declare thy glory, Lord
The Lord to thy request attend
The King, O Lord, with songs of praise
The Lord himself, the mighty Lord
This spacious earth is all the Lord's
To God, in whom I trust -
Through all the changing scenes of life
Though wicked men grow rich or great
Thy chast'ning wrath, O Lord, restrain
The Lord, the only God, is great -
The Lord hath spoke, the mighty God
The wicked fools must sure suppose
Thy mercy, Lord, to me extend
To bless thy chosen race -
To thee, O God, we render praise
To God I cried, who to my help -
To God, our never-failing strength
To my complaint, O Lord my God
To thee, my God and Saviour, I
Thy mercies, Lord, shall be my song
To God your grateful voices raise
The Lord unto my Lord thus spake
That man is bless'd, who stands in awe
To Sion's hill I lift my eyes -

·

The man is blest who fears the Lord
To God, the mighty Lord
Thou, Lord, by strictest search hast known
To thee, O Lord, my cries ascend
To God, with mournful voice -
Thee I'll extol, my God and King

[ocr errors]

With restless and ungovern'd rage -
Whom should I fear, since God to me
While I the king's loud praise rehearse
Why hast thou cast us off, O God -
With glory clad, with strength array'd -
