In vain the soldiers tried to keep
The Holy one within the grave;
In vain they put a seal and stone
Upon the entrance to the cave.
Alleluia, alleluia, &c.

For on the third day, as He said,
He came again in triumph high,
And rose all glorious from the dead,
Glittering with light and majesty.
Alleluia, alleluia.

For we must die as Jesus died,

But now we hope with Him to rise,

And in these bodies, glorified,

To reign with Him beyond the skies.
Alleluia, alleluia,

Clare of Kenmaire. (?)

CXCVII.

SWEET Spices they brought on their star-lighted way,
And came to the grave by the dawning of day.

But who will the stone from the sepulchre roll?
They said, as the tears from their weeping eyes stole.
The stone is removed, and the Saviour is gone;
Oh, hail, ye disciples, this bright Sabbath morn.

May Christ now appear as to Mary he came,
And fill every bosom with piety's flame.

Then heaven's bright glories we soon shall obtain, Nor Sabbaths, so peaceful, be useless and vain.

American.

CXCVIII.

ON wings of living light,
At earliest dawn of day,
Came down the angel bright,
And rolled the stone away.

Your voices raise with one accord
To bless and praise your risen Lord!

The keepers watching near,

At that dread sight and sound,

Fell down with sudden fear

Like dead men to the ground.

Your voices raise, &c.

Then rose from death's dark gloom,
Unseen by mortal eye,

Triumphant o'er the tomb,

The Lord of earth and sky!

Your voices raise, &c.

Then let your hearts be strong;
For we, like Him, shall rise,
To dwell with Him ere long
In bliss beyond the skies.

Your voices raise, &c.

PART VIII.-NATURE.

CXCIX.

I sing the almighty power of God,
That made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad.
And built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at his command,
And all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord,
That filled the earth with food;

He formed the creatures with His word,
And then pronounced them good.

There's not a plant or flower below
But makes His glories known;
And clouds arise and tempests blow
By order from His throne.

His hand is my perpetual guard,
He keeps me with His eye;
Why should I then forget the Lord,
Who is for ever nigh,

Dr. Watts.

CC.

God, who made the earth,
The air, the sky, the sea,

Who gave the light its birth,
Careth for me.

God, who made the grass,
The flower, the fruit, the tree,

The day and night to pass,

Careth for me.

God, who made the sun,

The moon, and stars, is He,

Who, when life's clouds come on,

Careth for me.

God, who made all things
On earth, in air, in sea,

Who changing seasons brings,
Careth for me.

God, who gave me breath,
Be this my prayer to Thee,
That when I sink in death
Still care for me.

God, who sent His Son

To die on Calvary,

He, if I lean on Him,

Will care for me.

When in heaven's bright land

I all His loved ones see,

I'll sing with that blest band,
God cared for me.

CCI.

When o'er earth is breaking
Rosy light, and fair,
Morn afar proclaimeth
Sweetly,-God is there.

When the spring is wreathing

Flowers, rich and rare,

On each leaf is written,

Nature's God is there.
