Did opening powers display, Capacious, - strong, -and fond to rove,

Foretold a shining day.
Illusive omens ! why so bright,

So transient and so frail ? .
His sparkling orbs are clos'd, - and night,

Death, murdering Death! so cruel, --- why

So lavish of thy power ? What could induce thee to destroy

This fair and beauteous flower ? To damp its vigour, chill its bloom,

But why should I from man retreat, ..

Since the lov'd Child is not,

In some sequelter'd spot i
No gloomy shades can chase my grief,

Some other plan I'll chuse.
To thee, dread LORD! I him refign,

My loss is his great gain;
The lovely gift was wholly thine,

A--ll the fair graces that enrich the mind R--ose with thy growth and were in thee conjoin'd. D--isease, alas ! has brought thee to the dust, S.-poil'd thy fair structure, and dislodg'd it's gueit. 0--f lineage high -.- transcriptive heir of God, U.-pborne by Angels to their bright abode, T.-0 Jesu's Throne; --- where mystic deeds engage H--is active thoughts, mature beyond his age. W--here the sweet Seraph soon I hope to see, E--mbrace and dwell with-in the Deity. L--0! this last tribute : --- we can give no more, L-ov'd much in life, mach we his lofs deplore.
