the life which shall endure forever; that when we are gathered to our fathers, we may be received into heaven, and dwell in thy house forever.—Amen.

OUR FATHER who art in the heavens : Hallowed be

Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so also upon the earth. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever.

Amen.

Then may be sung a suitable Selection (71, 11, 115), Hymn, or Anthem; and the Minister will pronounce the Benediction :

THE grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST be with you all.

I

Amen.

At the grave, the following passages may be read:

AM the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die.— John xi. 25, 26.

He is not here; for He is risen.-Matt. xxviii. 6.

BLESSED are the dead who die in the LORD from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow with them.-Rev. xiv. 13.

FORAS

T The Minister may then say:

ORASMUCH as it hath pleased ALMIGHTY GOD, our Heavenly Father, in his good Providence, to remove our friend (brother or sister) to the spiritual world, we therefore commit the body to the grave; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; believing in the

resurrection of the dead, and their eternal life in the spiritual world, according to the Gospel of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, who hath declared: "Now, that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the LORD the GOD of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the GoD of Jacob. For He is not a GOD of the dead, but of the living: for to Him all are living." Amen.

FOR

T Or, at the funeral of a child

PORASMUCH as it hath pleased ALMIGHTY GOD, our Heavenly Father, in his good Providence, to remove this child to the spiritual world, we therefore commit the body to the grave; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; believing in the immediate resurrection of the spirit, and its eternal life in heaven, according to the Gospel of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, who hath enjoined us, saying, "Suffer little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Amen.

IT

¶ Or, instead of the above, the following may be read:

T hath pleased the LORD, in his good and wise Providence, to remove our friend (brother, or sister, or child) to the spiritual world. This material body in which he (she) dwelt we do now commit to the grave, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, knowing that it is but the earthly covering which he (she) has left behind, and in the confident assurance that he (she) who has left it is already entering upon his (her) eternal life in the world above; according as our LORD JESUS CHRIST hath taught, saying, "I am the Resurrection and the Life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."

And, if at the funeral of a child, adding:

And, again, "Suffer little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Amen.

Then may be said the Lord's Prayer, and the Minister will pronounce the Benediction:

THE grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST be with you ali.

Amen.

VERSES

TO BE READ OR REPEATED AT THE TABLE BEFORE

MEALS.

OUR

UR FATHER, Who art in the heavens; Give us this day our daily bread.

THOU

wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

THE

He

HE LORD* is my Shepherd; I shall not want. maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

THOU

HOU preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD* for ever.

THE LORD* is their strength, and He is the saving strength of his anointed.

Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance; feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

* JEHOVAH.

THE

HE LORD* will give strength unto his people; the LORD* will bless his people with peace.

HOW great is thy goodness, which Thou hast laid up

for them that fear Thee; which Thou hast wrought for them that trust in Thee before the sons of men.

[ocr errors]

FEAR the LORD,* ye his saints; for there is no want to them that fear Him.

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger; but they that seek the LORD* shall not want any good thing.

HOW

WOW excellent is thy loving-kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with Thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

TRUST

RUST in the LORD,* and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the LORD;* and He shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

BECAUSE thy loving-kindness is better than life, my

lips shall praise Thee. Thus will I bless Thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

0

BLESS our GOD, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard; who holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.

GOD

OD be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us.

* JEHOVAH.
