With daily bread
I still am fed,

Have still warm clothes to wear
I've health and strength in every limb,
How grateful should I be;
How shall I show my love to Him
Who shows such love for me?

Many are blind, or deaf, or lame,
I hear the sweet birds sing;
Can bound along

With joyful song,

Can watch the flowers of spring.
No wasting pain my eye to dim,
From want and sickness free;
How shall I show my love to Him
Who shows such love for me?
And blessings greater still than these
A gracious God has given,
The precious Word

Of Christ our Lord,

To guide my feet to heaven.
Among the shining cherubim
I trust my home shall be ;
Then shall I show my love to Him
Who shows such love to me!

My God! I am a feeble child,
Oh! teach me to obey,
With humble fear

To serve Thee here,

To watch and praise and pray. My love is weak, my faith is dim, But grace I ask from Thee, That I may prove my love to Him Who lived and died for me.

IGHTY God, while angels bless

26 MThee,

May an infant lisp Thy name?
Lord of men as well as angels,

Thou art every creature's theme!

Lord of every land and nation,
Ancient of eternal days!
Sounded through the wide creation,
Be Thy just and lawful praise.

For the grandeur of Thy nature,—
Grand beyond a seraph's thought;
For the wonders of creation,

Works with skill and kindness wrought.

For Thy providence that governs
Through Thy empire's wide domain,
Wings an angel, guides a sparrow,---
Blessed be Thy gentle reign.

But Thy rich, Thy free redemption,
Bright, though veiled in darkness long,
Thought is poor, and poor expression:
Who dare sing that wondrous song?

Brightness of the Father's glory,
Shall Thy praise unuttered lie?
Break, my tongue, such guilty silence,
Sing the Lord who came to die.

From the highest throne in glory,
To the cross of deepest woe,-
Thou didst stoop to ransom captives;
Flow, my praise, for ever flow.

Re-ascend, immortal Saviour!

Leave Thy footstool, take Thy throne;
Thence return and reign for ever,
Be the kingdom all Thine own.
Chorus. Hallelujah!
Hallelujah, Amen.

Rev. Robert Robinson, 1774 (died 1790).

27 LITTLE children, praise the Saviour;

He regards you from above:
Praise Him for His great salvation :
Praise Him for His precious love!

When He left His throne in glory,
When He lived with mortals here,
Little children sang His praises,
And it pleased His gracious ear.

When the anxious mothers round Him,
With their tender infants, pressed;
He with open arms received them,
And the little ones He blessed.

Up in yonder spirit-regions,

Angels sound the chorus high;
Twice ten thousand times ten thousand
Sound His praises through the sky.

Little children, praise the Saviour;
Praise Him, your undying Friend,
Praise Him till in heaven you meet Him,
There to praise Him without end.
Chorus. Sweet hosannas

To the name of Jesus sing.

Juvenile Harmonist.

[blocks in formation]

28 CHILDREN of Jerusalem

Sang the praise of Jesus' name;
Children, too, of later days,
Join to sing the Saviour's praise.

We have often heard and read
What the royal Psalmist said,—
Babes' and sucklings' artless lays
Shall proclaim the Saviour's praise.

We are taught to love the Lord;
We are taught to read His word;
We are taught the way to heaven :
Praise for all to God be given.
Parents, teachers, old and young,
All unite to swell the song:
Higher, and yet higher rise,
Till hosannas reach the skies.

Chorus. Hark! while youthful voices sing,
Loud hosannas to our King.

Rev. John Henley (died 1842),

C.M.

DUPUIS' CHANT, 202. LONDON, 109.

29 COME, happy children, come and raise

ice with one accord;

Come, sing a cheerful song of praise,
And bless your Saviour Lord.

Sing of the wonders of His grace,
Who pardons all your sin,
says that such as seek His face
Shall life eternal win,

And

Sing of the wonders of His love,
And praise and glory give
To Him who left His throne above,
And died that we might live.

Sing of the wonders of His power,
Who with His own right arm,
Upholds and keeps us every hour,
And shields our souls from harm.

Sing of the wonders of His name,
And Jesus Christ adore,
Him for your Lord and God proclaim,
And praise Him evermore.

[blocks in formation]

30 BEFORE the Saviour's face in heaven,

A crowd of children stand;
Shining in robes of righteousness,
A smiling happy band.

They dwell in yonder blissful place,
And crowns of glory wear;
They see the Saviour's smiling face,
And palms of victory bear.

They join the angels' notes of praise,
To God the Father's love;

And with angelic voices raise

Their songs with saints' above.

Dear loving Saviour, grant that we
May reach the heavenly shore;
And every Sabbath-scholar be
Singing for evermore.

Chorus. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

John Kendrick Pelly
