Training Schools Are Now Ordering Books For The Fall

The shortage of stocks, the difficulty of securing paper and other material makes it not only desirable, but ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, to place orders earlier this year than ever before if books are to be received in time for the opening of classes. For use this coming year,

Two New Putnam Books Deserve Special

Consideration

from the Training-school Superintendents. They have
been prepared by authors whose practical nursing experi-
ence, whose standing in the profession and whose experience
in writing nursing books combined, make them authoritative.

Dock and Stewart's Short History of
Nursing

by LAVINIA L. DOCK, R.N., Secretary, International
Council of Nurses, and ISABEL MAITLAND STEWART,
A.B., R.N., Assistant Prof., Dept. of Nursing and Health,
Teachers' College, Columbia University, New York. This
volume has been prepared especially for use in the class-
rooms of training schools. It is, in effect a condensation
of the four volumes of the larger HISTORY OF NURSING
prepared by Miss Dock, in collaboration with Miss Nut-
ting, a standard work, but by its very nature too elaborate
for class use. All of the salient facts of this large work have
been condensed into this single comprehensive, inexpen-
sive volume. List price, $3.50.

2 West 45th St. Just west of 5th Ave.

Pope's Manual of Nursing Procedure

by AMY ELIZABETH POPE, author of many wellknown books on various phases of Nursing, co-author with Anna Caroline Maxwell, of PRACTICAL NURSING. In this new MANUAL all reference to Bacteriology, Dietetics, etc., are omitted, but the descriptions of the actual practical nursing work are longer than in PRACTICAL NURSING, because the author has included new ones and has given more detail of all procedures in a manner more adapted to class use. List price, $2.40.

ET ordinary shoes often do that to your toes. CANTILEVER SHOES, in contrast, have toe room aplenty. The outline of the inner sole follows the line of the foot; the toes are free to point straight ahead as they naturally should.

CANTILEVER SHOES give unusual comfort without the sacrifice of good looks. The lasts are patterned on trim lines; the shoes are made of the most popular leathers.

The extra broad tongue is padded so that the shoe can be laced tightly without binding the instep. Pulling the laces raises up the flexible shank to fit the foot arch snugly and give restful support to the foot.

The flexibility of the shank permits the arch muscles to exercise and grow strong. Blood circulation is encouraged. The result is a healthy foot, strong and free from pain, just as nature intended. The ordinary type of shoe, with rigid shank, frequently causes muscular weakness, through disuse, and impeded blood circulation.

If the hot weather has caused your feet to suffer, Cantilever comfort will refresh you.

SUPER

SHOES FOR HOSPITAL SERVICE

UPERINTENDENTS of Training Schools should see that all the nurses, supervisors and head nurses, as well as pupil nurses, wear shoes that support the foot in the right place, allow the blood to circulate properly, the arch muscles to exercise and the sensitive foot to be free from pain.
