A syllable may be also composed of six letters, as utwee, siampk. Qoupee, chiurpk.

Two or three consonants are sometimes formed before or after a vowel.

Double consonants at the end of a syllable are pronounced short, as, muri, darr.pw quel, cahghack.

When the word ends with double", in the pronunciation an e is inserted , Swenise (Swartups ) madnun. Sense (bonus) tziernun.

So also when in the beginning of a word the same consonant is doubled, as, 22044 (292n44) shashoog: 440g ( 4c4ng ) gugotz.

When the liquids ", q, r, are at the end

as ,

of a syllable after another consonant, they have equally in the pronunciation the letter c, a8, մուկն (մուկին) moogum. աստղ (աս. angz) asdugh. qnluung (Znluiner ) toosder.

But not when they precede the consonant, as, qnebou, coond, wu, aghd. 4wrę, garck.

Likewise when the consonants are different, as, Anze, tooght. unipee, soorpk. Sapule, hoghmk. In the beginning of

many words between two consonants the letter is understood in the oblique cases in stead of another vowel of the nominative case, as, Anel, tzoogun . ձկան (ձկան) taugaռ. միշտ, mishd. մշտակա (մշտակա) mushdagah.

A word is an articulate sonnd expressive of our ideas.

Words in the Armenian language consist of eight parts of speech; Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Participles, Prepositions, Adverbs, Conjunctions, Interjections.

NOUN

A noun signifies some substance, or quality, as, Jury, man. bryter, earth. Luyu, light. wrpujne[

In nouns six peculiarities are to be considered : Gender, Form, Species or Kind, Number, Case, Declension.

GENDER.

In the Armenian language the genders are distinguished by their natural significa

tions, as

MASCULINE.

դամ, Adam . Մովսէս, Moses. Պետ. րոս, Peter. Գրիգոր, Gregory: Վարդան, Vardan, etc.

Sur, father. brauc, brother. nluunt", son, a male-child. kuuj, a husband, spouse. աներ, a father-in-law. քեռի, uncle, a mother's brother. Yupu Swyr, gossip, Godfather. wyr, man, husband. Sunuy, a man-servant. թագաւոր or արքայ, king. նախարար , Satrap, a peer.gouy, a bull. bq6, an ox.

քա» a he-goat. խոյ, ram, a male sheep. զուարակ, bulock, a young 02 . եղջերու, stag. աքա ղաղ, cock, etc. տեան, ribunal.

soldiers. Հեծելա. գունդ, cavalry, horse-troops, etc.

FEMININE.
