The majority of the papers from which the follow ing pages have been compiled, were originally col lected for my own amusement, and, subsequently, some of them appeared in the columns of the North Lincoln Sphinx, a periodical printed for private circulation amongst the officers and men of the Second Battalion, Tenth Regiment. Circumstances have since then led to these papers being offered to the public in the present form, and I can only hope that they may prove acceptable.
