On motion, the report of the Committee on Necrology was referred to the Committee on Publication. Dr. Hibberd-Mr. President, I suggest that some action be taken upon the question of the propriety of making a record of the deaths of honorary members of the Society, so that it may be decided at once. Dr. Boyd-Mr. President, I move that the reports of deaths of honorary members be entered as part of the report of the Committee on Necrology, the same as of other members. Dr. Fields-I am not in favor of this. If a man gets too old to belong to the Society regularly let him retire. I am about as old a man as there is here, and I am a regular attendant and a regular member of this Society. Dr. Stemen-I am in favor of this motion for the reason that we have had two honorary members in our place. Dr. Schmidt, who had grown so feeble and weak that he was unable to attend the Society, or take any part in the transactions, but the members felt they should honor him. We have also another, Dr. Ayres, who is palsied and unable to attend the Society. He stood high in Fort Wayne, and for many years has been one of the honorary members of our Society. I am in favor of the motion. Dr. Beard-I am not in favor of the motion. I think it would make too many honorary members. It is the duty of the Allen county society to keep its old members regularly in the Society, and it is its duty to pay their dues for them. Dr. Boyd—I am in favor of recording the deaths of honorary members. When Dr. Fields gets to be forty or fifty years older he will not be so strongly opposed to this. The motion was carried. On motion the Chairman of the Committee on Arrangements was instructed to see that the exhibition room be closed during the business meetings of this Society. By consent, Dr. Warren R. King read his paper on "Spinal Concussion." On motion it was referred to the Committee on Publication. After discussion of this paper the Society took a recess until two o'clock P. M. The Secretary-Mr. President, the Chairman of the committee, Dr. Ferree, is not feeling well, and asks me to read his report for him. It is as follows: REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON PUBLICATION. As chairman of the Committee on Publication I submit the following report: Opportunity was given the various publishing houses in the city to bid for the work of publishing the Transactions for 1885. The bid of Carlon & Hollenbeck being the lowest, they were awarded the contract. Fourteen hundred copies were ordered printed, for which was paid $603.70, being forty-three cents and a fraction for each. The copies were distributed to members entitled thereto; also to medical societies, public libraries and institutes to the number of seventy-four, to American medical journals, twenty-nine; to foreign journals and societies, twenty-seven; to honorary members and relatives of deceased members, twenty-eight. The President-We will now hear the paper of Dr. S. H. Charlton, subject: "Is there a Typho-Malarial Fever." Dr. Charlton read his paper, which was discussed and referred to the Committee on Publication. On motion, Dr. Cook, of the Ohio State Medical Society, was invited to participate in the discussion. The President-The next paper is "Heredity," by Mary F. Thomas, M. D., of Richmond. The paper was read and referred to the Committee on Publication. The President—The next paper on the program is that of Dr. Thomas J. Bowles. He is not present and Dr. T. B. Har vey will read his paper, subject: "Ovarian Disease Complicated by Pregnancy." Dr. Harvey read his paper, which was discussed and referred to the Committee on Publication. The report of the Committee on Finance was read, and, on motion, concurred in. It is as follows: MR. PRESIDENT—The Committee on Finance respectfully report that the accounts of the Secretary and Treasurer, of the Committee on Publication, and of the Committee of Arrangements, have been found correct. The Secretary-Mr. President, I have here a protest against the admission of the Vigo county delegates, which will be referred to the Committee on Credentials, and there will be a meeting of that committee this evening at 7:30 P. M. Dr. Harvey-I want to make a motion by which something may be done more than merely reading a paper upon so valuable and interesting a subject as that treated of by Dr. Charlton. There is no subject a definite knowledge of which is more lacking in the medical profession, and necessarily in the minds of the public. I think it would be well to have a committee appointed on all such papers as this, to report at a subsequent sitting. We have heard expressions from perhaps less than twenty of the members of the Society who are here to-day, and they not agreeing, of course. A committee should be appointed to investigate the question and place upon record the result of its research. I move that the subject of typho-malarial fever be brought up again to-night for discussion after the President's address. Dr. Woolen-I move to amend Dr. Harvey's motion by changing the time from to-night and making it now, and proceeding with the discussion at once. The amendment and motion as amended were adopted, and discussion was engaged in until six o'clock, when, on motion, further discussion was postponed until evening.
