4 But to those who have confess'd,
Loved and served the Lord below,
He will say, "Come near, ye bless'd,
See the kingdom I bestow :
You for ever

Shall My love and glory know."

[blocks in formation]

Earth is a desert drear;

Heaven is my home.

Danger and sorrow stand
Round me on every hand;
Heaven is my fatherland,

Heaven is my home.

2 What though the tempests rage?

Heaven is my home:

Short is my pilgrimage;

Heaven is my home.

And time's wild, wintry blast
Soon will be overpast,

I shall reach heaven at last,

Heaven is my home.

3 There at my Saviour's side,

I shall be glorified;

Heaven is my home,

Heaven is my home:

There are the good and blest,
Those I love most and best,

And there I too shall rest,

Heaven is my home.

4 Therefore I murmur not;

Heaven is

Whate'er my earthly lot;

my home:

Heaven is my home.

And I shall surely stand,

There at my Lord's right hand;
Heaven is my fatherland,

Heaven is my home.

133. 7 6, 7 6, 7 6, 7 6, 6.

THO

HOUGH often here we're weary,
There is sweet rest above !

A rest that is eternal,

Where all is peace and love.
O, let us then press forward,
That glorious rest to gain;
We'll soon be free from sorrow,
From toil, and care, and pain.
There is sweet rest in heaven.
2 Our Saviour will be with us,
E'en to our journey's end,
In every sore affliction,

His present help to lend.
He never will grow weary,
Though often we request;
He'll give us grace to conquer,
And take us home to rest.
There is sweet rest in heaven.

3 All glory to the Father,

Who gives us every good;

All glory be to Jesus,

Who bought us with His blood

And glory to the Spirit,

Who keeps us to the end:

To God Three-One be glory,
The sinner's only Friend.

There is sweet rest in heaven.

134.

ON Jordan's stormy banks I stand,

And cast a wishful eye

To Canaan's fair and happy land,
Where my possessions lie.

2 All o'er those wide-extended plains
Shines one eternal day :

There God, the Sun, for ever reigns,
And scatters night away.

3 No chilling winds, or pois'nous breath,
Can reach that healthful shore;
Sickness and sorrow, pain and death,
Are felt and fear'd no more.

135.

1 HALL we meet beyond the river,
Where the surges cease to roll;
Where, in all the bright for ever,
Sorrow ne'er shall press the soul?

Shall we meet beyond the river,
Where the surges cease to roll?
2 Shall we meet in that blest harbour,
When our stormy course is o'er?
Shall we meet and cast the anchor
By the fair celestial shore?
Shall we meet, &c.

3 Shall we meet with many loved ones,
Who were torn from our embrace ?
Shall we listen to their voices,

And behold them face to face?
Shall we meet, &c.

4 Shall we meet with Christ our Saviour
When He comes to claim His own?
Shall we know His blessed favour,
And sit down upon His throne?
Shall we meet, &c.

1 al so let it be:

ever with the Lord!

Life from the dead is in that word,
And immortality!

2 Here in the body pent,
Absent from Him I roam,
And nightly pitch my moving tent,
A day's march nearer home.
3 My Father's house on high!
Home of my soul! how near,
At times, to faith's foreseeing eye,
Thy golden gates appear!

4 Ah! then my spirit faints
To reach the land I love,

The bright inheritance of saints,
Jerusalem above!

ERUSALEM, my happy home;
Name ever dear to me!

When shall my labours have an end,

In joy, and peace, and thee?

2 When shall these eyes thy heaven-built walls And pearly gates behold,

Thy bulwarks, with salvation strong,
And streets of shining gold?

3 There happier bowers than Eden's bloom,
Nor sin nor sorrow know:

Blest seats! through rude and stormy scenes
I onward press to you.

4 Why should I shrink at pain and woe,
Or feel, at death, dismay?

I've Canaan's goodly land in view,

5 Apostles, martyrs, prophets there,
Around my Saviour stand;
And soon my friends in Christ below,
Will join the glorious band.
6 Jerusalem, my happy home!

1

My soul still pants for thee;
Then shall my labours have an end,
When I thy joys shall see.

[blocks in formation]

HOME in heaven! what a joyful thought, As the poor man toils in his weary lot; His heart oppress'd, and with anguish driven From his home on earth to his home in heaven. 2 A home in heaven! when our pleasures fade, And our wealth and fame in the dust are laid, When strength decays, and our health is riven, We are happy still with a home in heaven. 3 A home in heaven! as the suff' rer lies On his bed of pain, and uplifts his eyes To that bright world, what a joy is given By the blessed thought of a home in heaven! 4 A home in heaven! where our friends are fled, From the cheerless gloom of the mouldering

dead:

We wait in hope on the promise given;
We shall meet again in our home in heaven!

thousand times ten thousand sung Their anthems round the throne,

When, lo! one solitary tongue
Began a song unknown;

A song unknown to angels' ears,
A song that spoke of banish'd fears,
Of pardon'd sins, of dried-up tears.
