88. 1L

4-118.

IKE mist on the mountain, like ships on the sea,

So swiftly the years of our pilgrimage flee! In the grave, with our fathers, how soon we shall lie!

Dear children, to-day, to a Saviour fly.

2 How sweet are the flowers of April and May, But often the frost makes them wither away; Like flowers you may fade: are you ready to die?

While yet there is time, to a Saviour fly. 3 When Samuel was young, he first knew the Lord,

He slept in His smile, and rejoiced in His word;

So most of God's children are early brought nigh:

O! seek Him in youth-to a Saviour fly. 4 Do you ask me for pleasure? Then lean on His breast,

For there the sin-laden and weary find rest; In the valley of death you will triumphing

cry,

"If this be called dying, 't is pleasant to die."

[blocks in formation]

HAVE you not heard of a beautiful stream, That flows through our Father's land? Its waters gleam bright in the heavenly light, And ripple o'er golden sand.

CHORUS.

O seek that beautiful stream!
O seek that beautiful stream!

Its waters so free are flowing for thee,
O seek that beautiful stream!

2 With murmuring sound doth it wander along, Through fields of eternal green;

Where songs of the blest, in their haven of rest, Float soft on the air serene.

O seek, &c.

3. Its fountains are deep, and its waters are pure, And sweet to the weary soul;

It flows from the throne of Jehovah alone;

O come where its bright waves roll!

O seek, &c.

4 This beautiful stream is the River of Life; It flows for all nations free;

A balm for each wound in its waters is found: O, sinner, it flows for thee!

O seek, &c. 5 O! will you not drink of the beautiful stream, And dwell on its peaceful shore ?

The Spirit says, Come, all ye weary ones, home, And wander in sin no more.

O seek, &c.

REDEMPTION: REPENTANCE AND FAITH.

4-7s.

YOD of mercy, God of love!

90.

U Hear me from Thy throne above;

Teach me how in truth to pray:

Take my sinful heart away.

2 Oft I disobedient grow,
And unlovely tempers show;
Evil things I do and say:
Take my wicked heart away.
3 Mould my nature all afresh,
Give to me the heart of flesh;
For I know that grace Divine
Changes even hearts like mine.

[blocks in formation]

1 THOU that wouldst not have
One wretched sinner die;

Who diedst Thyself, my soul to save
From endless misery!

2 Show me the way to shun

Thy dreadful wrath severe :
That when Thou comest on Thy throne,
I may with joy appear!

3 Thou art Thyself the Way;
Thyself in me reveal:

So shall I spend my life's short day
Obedient to Thy will;

4 So shall I love my God,

Because He first loved me,

And praise Thee in Thy bright abode,
To all eternity.

[blocks in formation]

COME, my soul, thy suit prepare:

Jesus loves to answer prayer;
He Himself has bid thee pray,
Therefore will not say thee nay.
2 Thou art coming to a King:
Large petitions with thee bring:
For His grace and power are such,
None can ever ask too much.

3 With my burden I begin :
Lord, remove this load of sin!
Let Thy blood, for sinners spilt,
Set my conscience free from guilt.
4 Lord I come to Thee for rest:
Take possession of my breast;

There Thy blood-bought right maintain,

S. M.

to Thine altar, Lord,

No broken heart I bring;

And wilt Thou graciously accept
Of such a worthless thing?
2 To Christ, the bleeding Lamb,
My faith directs her eyes;
All other offerings are vain;
But not His Sacrifice.

3 That moment He expired,
The law was satisfied;

1

And now to its severest claims
I answer, "Jesus died."

S. M.

CALL'D from above, I rise,

And wash away my sin;

93.

94.

The stream, to which my spirit flies,
Can make the foulest clean:

2 It runs divinely clear;

1

A fountain deep and wide;

'Twas opened by the soldier's spear In my Redeemer's side.

8-78.

JESU, Lover of my soul,

Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high:
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life be past;
Safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!

95.

2 Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me:
All my trust on Thee is stay'd;
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless bead

With the shadow of Thy wing.

96. JUST

888, 6.

as I am, without one plea,

But that Thy Blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidd'st me come to Thee,O Lamb of God, I come!

2 Just as I am,-and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot;

To Thee, whose Blood can cleanse each spot,—
O Lamb of God, I come!

3 Just as I am,-though toss'd about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings within, and fears without,-
O Lamb of God, I come!

4 Just as I am,-poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find,-
O Lamb of God, I come!

5 Just as I am,-Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve!
Because Thy promise I believe,-
O Lamb of God, I come!

6 Just as I am,-Thy love, I own,
Hath broken every barrier down;

Now, to be Thine; yea, Thine alone,—
O Lamb of God, I come!
