The fallen soul His temple makes,
God's image stamps again :

All hail, &c.

4 Come, Holy Spirit, from above,
With Thy celestial fire;

Come, and with flames of zeal and love
Our hearts and tongues inspire:
Be this our day of Pentecost,
The coming of the Holy Ghost!

Spirit breathes upon the Word,
And brings the truth to sight;
Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.

2 A glory gilds the sacred Page,
Majestic, like the sun;

It gives a light to every age,-
It gives, but borrows none.

3 The Hand that gave it still supplies
The gracious light and heat;
His truths upon the nations rise,-
They rise, but never set.

4 Let everlasting thanks be Thine
For such a bright display,
As makes a world of darkness shine
With beams of heavenly day.

5 My soul rejoices to pursue
The steps of Him I love,

Till glory breaks upon my view
In brighter worlds above.

SPIRIT Divine, attend our prayers,

And make this house Thy home; Descend with all Thy gracious powers: O come, Great Spirit, come !

2 Come as the light,-to us reveal
Our emptiness and woe;

And lead us in those paths of life
Where all the righteous go.

3 Come as the fire,-and purge our hearts, Like sacrificial flame:

Let our whole souls an offering be

To our Redeemer's name.

4 Come as the dew,

and sweetly bless

This consecrated hour:

May barren minds rejoice to own

Thy fertilizing power.

5 Come as the dove, -and spread Thy wings,
The wings of peaceful love;
And let the Church on earth become
Blest as the Church above.

50.

1H Grant that lively Faith may rest,

And subdue each rebel thought
To believe what Thou hast taught.
2 When around my sinking soul
Gathering waves of sorrow roll,
Spirit blest, the tempest still,
And with Hope my bosom fill.
3 Holy Spirit, from my mind
Thought and wish and will unkind,
Deed and word unjust remove,
And my bosom fill with love.
4 Faith, and Hope, and Charity,
Comforter, descend from Thee;
Thou the Anointing Spirit art,
These Thy gifts to us impart.

5 Till our faith be lost in sight,
Hope be swallow'd in delight,
Love return to dwell with Thee,
In the threefold Deity!

SECTION IV.

THE HOLY TRINITY.

YOUNG

6 6 6 6, 8 8.

OUNG men and maidens, raise
Your tuneful voices high;

Old men and children, praise

The Lord of earth and sky:

Him Three in One, and One in Three,
Extol to all eternity.

The universal King

Let all the world proclaim;

Let every creature sing

His attributes and name!

Him Three in One, &c.

3 In His great name alone
All excellencies meet,
Who sits upon the throne,
And shall for ever sit:

4

Him Three in One, &c.

Glory to God belongs;
Glory to God be given,
Above the noblest songs

Of all in earth or heaven!

Him Three in One, &c.

4-7s.

1 LORY to the Father give,

God, in whom we move and live:

Children's prayers He deigns to hear, hildren's songs delight His ear.

2 Glory to the Son we bring,

Christ our Prophet, Priest, and King:
Children, raise your sweetest strain
To the Lamb, for He was slain.
3 Glory to the Holy Ghost;
Be this day a Pentecost;

Children's minds may He inspire,
Touch their tongues with holy fire.
4 Glory in the highest be
To the blessed Trinity,

For the Gospel from above,
For the word that "God is love."

I

6 6 6 6, 8 8.

GIVE immortal praise
To God the Father's love,
For all my comforts here,

And better hopes above:

He sent His own eternal Son,
To die for sins that man had done.
To God the Son belongs
Immortal glory too,

Who bought us with His blood

From everlasting woe:

53.

And now He lives, and now He reigns,
And sees the fruit of all His pains.

To God the Spirit's name
Immortal worship give,
Whose new-creating power

Makes the dead sinner live:

His work completes the great design,
And fills the soul with joy divine.

Almighty God, to Thee

Be endless honours done;

The undivided Three,
And the mysterious One:

Where reason fails with all her powers,
There faith prevails, and love adores.

THE BIBLE.

C. M.

shall the young secure their hearts,

Hnd guard their lives from sin?
Thy Word the choicest rules imparts,
To keep the conscience clean.

2 When once it enters to the mind,
It spreads such light abroad,
The meanest souls instruction find,
And raise their thoughts to God.
3 'Tis like the sun, a heavenly light,
That guides us all the day;
And, through the dangers of the night,
A lamp to lead our way.

4 Thy Word is everlasting truth;
How pure is every page!

Thy holy Book shall guide our youth,
And well support our age.
