2 Like Him, may we be found below
In wisdom's paths of peace;
Like Him, in grace and knowledge grow
As years and strength increase.

3 Jesus pass'd by the rich and great
For men of low degree;

He sanctified our parents' state,
For poor like them was He.

4 Sweet were His words, and kind His look,
When mothers round Him press'd;
Their infants in His arms He took,
And on His bosom bless'd.

5 Safe from the world's alluring harms,
Beneath His watchful eye,

Thus in the circle of His arms
May we for ever lie.

PLUNGED in a gulf of dark despair

We wretched sinners lay,

Without one cheerful beam of hope,
Or spark of glimmering day.

2 With pitying eyes, the Prince of Peace
Beheld our helpless grief;

He saw, and-O amazing love!
He flew to our relief.

3 Down from the shining seats above
With joyful haste He fled;
Enter'd the grave in mortal flesh,
And dwelt among the dead.

4 O for this love let rocks and hills
Their lasting silence break,

And all harmonious human tongues
The Saviour's praises speak!

5 Angels, assist our mighty joys,
Strike all your harps of gold;
But when you raise your highest notes,
His love can ne'er be told.

HEN on Sinai's top I see
God descend in majesty

To proclaim His holy law,
All my spirit sinks with awe.
2 When in ecstasy sublime,
Tabor's glorious steep I climb,
At the too transporting light
Darkness rushes o'er my sight,
3 When on Calvary I rest,
God in flesh made manifest
Shines in my Redeemer's face,
Full of beauty, truth, and grace.
4 Here I would for ever stay,
Weep and gaze my soul away:
Thou art heaven on earth to me,
Lovely, mournful Calvary!

the cross our pain enduring,
By His death our life procuring,
Hung the suff'ring Son of God.

2 Under all our sorrow lying,

In the room of sinners dying,

There was shed His precious blood. 3 On this wondrous death-scene gazing, Thankfully we join in raising

Songs in honour of His love.

4 Anthems sweet let earth be singing, With His praise let heaven be ringing, Sung by ransom'd saints above,

ARK! the voice of love and mercy
Sounds aloud from Calvary;

See! it rends the rocks asunder,
Shakes the earth, and veils the sky.
"It is finish'd!"

Hear the dying Saviour cry.
2 "It is finish'd!"-O, what pleasure
Do the wondrous words afford!
Heavenly blessings without measure
Flow to us through Christ the Lord.
"It is finish'd!"

Saints, the precious words record. 3 Tune your harps anew, ye seraphs! Join to sing the pleasing theme! All on earth, and all in heaven, Join to praise Immanuel's name. "It is finish'd!"

Glory to the bleeding Lamb.

HEN I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. 2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ, my God: All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

3 See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down: Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? 4 Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all!

[blocks in formation]

LL hail, the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown Him Lord of all.

2 Crown Him, ye martyrs of our God,
Who from His altar call;
Extol the Stem of Jesse's rod,
And crown Him Lord of all.

3 Ye saints redeemed of Adam's race,
Ye ransom'd from the fall;

Hail Him, who saves you by His grace!
And crown Him Lord of all.

4 Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,

To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all.
5 0 that with yonder sacred throng,
We at His feet may fall;
Join in the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all!

1 NOME, let us join our cheerful songs With angels round the throne;

38.

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.

2 "Worthy the Lamb that died," they cry,
"To be exalted thus !"

"Worthy the Lamb!" our hearts reply; "For He was slain for us."

3 Jesus is worthy to receive

Honour and power divine;

And blessings, more than we can give,
Be, Lord, for ever Thine!

4 The whole creation join in one,
To bless the sacred Name
Of Him that sits upon the throne,
And to adore the Lamb.

1H Hail, Thou Galilean King!

[AIL, Thou once despised Jesus!

Thou didst suffer to release us;
Thou didst free salvation bring.
Hail, Thou agonizing Saviour,
Bearer of our sin and shame!
By Thy merits we find favour;
Life is given through Thy name.

2 Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
All our sins on Thee were laid;
By almighty Love anointed,

Thou hast full atonement made:
All Thy people are forgiven,

Through the virtue of Thy blood;
Open'd is the gate of heaven,

Peace is made 'twixt man and God.

3 Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory,
There for ever to abide :

All the heavenly host adore Thee,
Seated at Thy Father's side:
There for sinners Thou art pleading,
There Thou dost our place prepare;
Ever for us interceding,

Till in glory we appear.

4 Worship, honour, power, and blessing, Thou art worthy to receive;

Loudest praises without ceasing,
