4 I shall then show forth Thy praise,
Serve Thee all my happy days,
Then the world shall always see
Christ, the Holy Child, in me.

JESUS, when He left the sky,

239.

And for sinners came to die,

In His mercy pass'd not by

Little ones like me.

2 Mothers then the Saviour sought
In the places where He taught,
And to Him their children brought-
Little ones like me.

3 Did the Saviour say them nay?
No-He kindly bade them stay;
Suffer'd none to turn away

Little ones like me.

4 'Twas for them His life He gave,
To redeem them from the grave;
Jesus died from hell to save

Little ones like me.

5 Children, then, should love Him now,
Strive His holy will to do,
Pray to Him, and love Him too-
Little ones like me.

Mine, to tell me whence I came;
Mine, to teach me what I am.

2 Mine, to chide me when I rove;
Mine, to show a Saviour's love;
Mine art thou, to guide my feet;
Mine to judge, condemn, acquit.
3 Mine, to comfort in distress,
If the Holy Spirit bless;
Mine, to show, by living faith,
Man can triumph over death.

4 Mine, to tell of joys to come,
And the rebel sinner's doom:
Holy Bible, book Divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine!

WHEN little Samuel woke,

WE

And heard his Maker's voice,

At every word He spoke,

How much did he rejoice!

O blessed, happy child! to find

The God of heaven so near and kind.

If God would speak to me,

And say He was my Friend,
How happy should I be,

O, how would I attend!

The smallest sin, I then should fear,
If God Almighty were so near.

And does He never speak?

O yes! for, in His word,
He bids me come and seek

The God that Samuel heard:

In almost every page I see
The God of Samuel calls to me.

(43.)

4 Like Samuel, let me say,
Whene'er I read His word,
"Speak, Lord, I would obey

(44.)

(45.)

The voice that I have heard.
And when I in Thy house appear,
Speak, for Thy servant waits to hear."

THAT I, like Timothy,
Might the holy Scriptures know
From mine earliest infancy,
Till for God mature I grow:
Made unto salvation wise,
Ready for the glorious prize.
2 Jesus, all-redeeming Lord,
Full of truth, and full of grace,
Make me understand Thy word;
Teach me, in my youthful days,
Wonders in Thy word to see,
Wise through faith which is in Thee.
3 Open now mine eyes of faith;
Open now the Book of God;
Show me here the secret path,
Leading to Thy bless'd abode :
Wisdom from above impart,
Speak the meaning to my heart.

1 WE won't give up the Bible,

God's holy Book of Truth;

243.

The blessed staff of hoary age,
The guide of early youth:
The sun that sheds a glorious light

O'er every dreary road;

The voice that speaks a Saviour's love,

And calls us home to God.

2 We won't give up the Bible,
For pleasure, or for pain:
We'll buy the truth, and sell it not
For all that we might gain.

Though man should try to take our prize,
By guile or cruel might,

We'd suffer all that man could do:
God would defend the right.

3 We won't give up the Bible,
But spread it far and wide,
Until its saving words be heard
Beyond the rolling tide;

Till all shall know its gracious power,
And with one voice and heart
Resolve, that from God's sacred Word
They'll never, never part.

SECTION IV.

MORAL LESSONS.

4-78.

I am a little child,
Humble I should be, and mild;
Always ready to be taught,
And to do the things I ought.

2 When I cannot have my way,
I must no ill-will display;
But must learn to bend my will,
And be kind and gentle still.

3 Pride and anger I must shun,
Nor be rude to any one;
Evil tempers must not rise,
To offend God's holy eyes.

(47.)

4 Lord, Thy help and grace I seek;
Make me humble, modest, meek;
Poor in spirit may I be,

And submit myself to Thee.

1 'N God's own house for me to play, Where Christians meet to hear and pray,

Is to profane His holy place,

And mock the' Almighty to His face.

2 The Lord attends me day by day,
Knows all I do, or think, or say;
But chiefly in His house of prayer,
Observes what is my conduct there.

3 When angels bow before the Lord,
And devils tremble at His word,
Shall I, a feeble mortal, dare

To mock, and sport, and trifle there!

4 When death, the king of fears, shall come, To call me to my latest home,

The thought of such a shameful part
With bitter pain would pierce my heart.

WHATEVER brawls disturb the street,
There should be peace at home;

Where sisters dwell, and brothers meet,
Quarrels should never come.

2 Birds in their little nests agree;
And 'tis a shameful sight
When children of one family
Fall out, and chide, and fight.
