1 LORY to God on high!
Let earth to heaven reply;
Praise ye His name:

His love and grace adore,
Who all our sorrows bore;
And praise Him evermore;
Worthy the Lamb!

2 Join, all the ransomed race,
Our Lord and God to bless;
Praise ye His name :

In Him we will rejoice,
Making a joyful noise,

Shouting with heart and voice,
Worthy the Lamb!

3 Though we must change our place,
Yet shall we never cease
Praising His name;

To Him our tribute bring,
Hail Him our gracious King,
And, without ceasing, sing,
Worthy the Lamb!

LESS'D Jesus, ever at my side,
How loving must Thou be,

To leave Thy home in heaven to guard
A little child like me!

2 Thy beautiful and shining face
I see not, though so near;

The sweetness of Thy soft, low voice,
I am too deaf to hear:

(20.)

(21.)

3 I cannot feel Thee touch my hand,
With pressure light and mild,
To check me as my mother did,
When I was but a child:

4 But I have felt Thee in my thoughts,
Fighting with sin for me;

And when my heart loves God, I know
That love is all from Thee.

5 And when, O Saviour, I kneel down,
Morning and night, to prayer,
Something there is within my heart
Which tells me Thou art there:

6 Yes! when I pray, Thou prayest too—
Thy prayer is all for me;
But when I sleep, Thou sleepest not,
But watchest patiently.

1 JE Tenderly each babe caresses;

ESUS little children blesses,

220.

Men may frown and disrespect them,
But their scorn shall not affect them;
Jesus will from harm protect them.

O, how He loves!

2 In His arms He'll kindly bear them;
None can from His bosom tear them;
In His pasture see them feeding,

And their Shepherd's voice they're heeding;
See the Shepherd kindly leading.

O, how He loves!

3 He who on the tree was bleeding, Now for them is interceding,

Sheds upon them all His Spirit,
Saves them by His boundless merit:
They through Him shall life inherit.
O, how He loves!

4 He'll support their souls when dying;
When they leave this world of sighing,
Guide them safe o'er Jordan's river,
Where death shall o'ertake them never,
And with Him they'll reign for ever.
O, how He loves!

5 When they sing the song of glory,
May we swell with them the story;
With the angels ever vying,

Holy, holy, holy, crying;

Free from sorrow, pain, and sighing.

JESU

ESUS is our Shepherd,
Wiping every tear;

Folded in His bosom,
What have we to fear?
Only let us follow

Whither He doth lead,
To the thirsty desert,
Or the dewy mead.

2 Jesus is our Shepherd;
Well we know His voice,
How its gentlest whisper
Makes our heart rejoice!
Even when He chideth,
Tender is His tone;

None but He shall guide us,-
We are His alone.

(23.)

3 Jesus is our Shepherd;
For the sheep He bled;
Every lamb is sprinkled
With the blood He shed:
Then on each He setteth
His own secret sign,—
"They that have My Spirit,
These," saith He, are Mine."

4 Jesus is our Shepherd;

Guarded by His arm,

Though the wolves may ravin,
None can do us harm;
When we tread death's valley,
Dark with fearful gloom,
We will fear no evil,

Victors o'er the tomb.
5 Jesus is our Shepherd;
With His goodness now,
And His tender mercy,
He doth us endow :
Let us sing His praises

With a gladsome heart,
Till in heaven we meet Him,
Never more to part.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST: HYMNS OF PRAYER.

THOU

[blocks in formation]

Guardian of our earliest days,
To Thee our prayers ascend;
To Thee we'll tune our songs of praise,
Jesus, the children's Friend.

2 From Thee our daily mercies flow,
Our life and health descend;
O, save our souls from sin and woe!
Thou art the children's Friend.

3 Teach us to prize Thy holy word,
And to its truths attend:

Thus shall we learn to fear the Lord,
And love the children's Friend.

4 O, may we feel a Saviour's love,
To Him our souls commend,
Who left His glorious throne above
To be the children's Friend.

5 Lord, draw our youthful hearts to Thee; And when this life shall end,

Raise us to live above the sky

With Thee, the children's Friend.

4-7s.

ENTLE Jesus, meek and mild,
Look upon a little child;

Pity my simplicity,

Suffer me to come to Thee.

2 Fain I would to Thee be brought;
Gracious God, forbid it not:
Give me, O my God! a place
In the kingdom of Thy grace.

3 Fain I would be as Thou art;
Give me Thy obedient heart:
Thou art pitiful and kind;
Let me have Thy loving mind.

4 Meek and lowly may I be;
Thou art all humility:
Let me to my betters bow;
Subject to Thy parents Thou.
5 Let me above all fulfil

God my heavenly Father's will;
Never His good Spirit grieve,
Only to His glory live.
