TRINITY SUNDAY.

EVENING PRAYER.

All standing, the head of the family (or the priest or deacon, if present) says:

. Turn Thou us, O God our Saviour.

Ry. And let Thine anger cease from us.

. O God, make speed to save us.

R. O Lord, make haste to help us.
V. Glory be to the Father, &c.

Ry. As it was, &c.

Then he says the following hymn of praise :

. Blessed for ever be Thy name, eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for Thy infinite power and love in creating us and all the world.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Blessed be Thou, O Jesus, Son of God, our Saviour, for Thy infinite glory in itself, and Thy infinite love to us in redeeming us and all mankind.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Blessed be Thou, O God the Holy Ghost, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, for comforting us in all our troubles, and infusing the grace and love of God into our hearts. Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. And blessed be Thou, O God, for preserving us from so many dangers of body and soul, and for all the temporal and spiritual blessings Thou affordest us.

Ry. Our souls do magnify Thee, O Lord.

. Be Thou exalted, O God, above the clouds, and Thy glory above the heavens.

Ry. While we live we will sanctify Thy name; we will sing praises to our God while we have our being.

V. Glory be to the Father, &c. Ry. As it was, &c.

PART OF PSALM 104, v. 1.

PRAISE the Lord, O my soul:

O Lord my God, Thou art become exceeding glorious; Thou art clothed with majesty and hon

our.

Thou deckest Thyself with light as it were with a garment and spreadest out the heavens like a curtain.

Who layeth the beams of His chambers in the waters and maketh the clouds His chariot, and walketh upon the wings of the wind. He maketh His angels spirits: and His ministers a flaming fire.

He laid the foundations of the earth that it never should move at any time.

He appointed the moon for certain seasons and the sun knoweth his going down.

Man goeth forth to his work, and to his labour : until the evening.

:

When Thou givest it them they gather it and when Thou openest Thy hand they are filled with good.

When Thou hidest Thy face they are troubled when Thou takest away their breath they die, and are turned again to their dust.

When Thou lettest Thy breath go forth they shall be made : and Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

The glorious majesty of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in His works.

The earth shall tremble at the look of Him: if He do but touch the hills, they shall smoke.

I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will praise my God while I have my being.

And so shall my words please Him: my joy shall be in the Lord.

As for sinners, they shall be consumed out of the earth, and the ungodly shall come to an end : praise thou the Lord, O my soul, praise the Lord.

Then all say,

BELIEVE in God, &c.

Then he says,

MAY

Then he reads the short chapter following:

man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.

Then he says,

V. Let us bless the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Ry. Thanks be to Thee, O God, for Thy great mercy.
. But Thou, O God, have mercy upon us.

Ry. And forgive us our sins.

Then all kneeling, say the following Litany and Confession :

GOD the Father, eternal Fountain of all being;

Thou who didst so love the world as to give Thy only Son to redeem it;

Thou who hast prepared for us a glorious inheritance if we love Thee and keep Thy commandments,

Have mercy on us.

O God the Son, eternal Word of the Father;

Thou who, to save us sinners, tookest upon Thee the frail nature of man, and becamest obedient unto the death of the cross;

Thou who at the last and dreadful day wilt come with glory to judge the living and the dead,

Have mercy on us.

O God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son;

Thou by whom wast wrought the glorious mystery of our Saviour's incarnation;

Thou who art the free Dispenser of all graces and spiritual consolations,

Have mercy on us.

O sacred Trinity, three Persons and one God, of equal glory and co-eternal majesty ;

11 St. John iv. 12.

O sacred Trinity, from whom, by whom, and in whom are

all things;

O sacred Trinity, to whom all the angels and saints of heaven continually sing, Holy, Holy, Holy,

Have mercy on us.

Look down, O Lord, with compassion upon us miserable sinners, who confess and bewail the innumerable sins we have most grievously committed against Thee, by thought, word, and deed. Remember, not, O Lord, our offences, but Thy infinite mercy, and give us a true contrition for them all, that being turned from every evil way, we may by a sincere repentance obtain Thy peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We sinners do beseech Thee to hear us; and grant that as we have heard this day in Thy house of prayer what our duty is, we may, by Thy grace and help, be enabled to accomplish it;

That we may not be conformed to this world; but that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we may live soberly, justly, and piously;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

That we may crucify the flesh with its vices and lusts, and be ever clean of heart;

That being dead to sin, we may live unto righteousness, and arising with Thee, our Redeemer, may die no more;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

And that it may please Thee to have mercy on our relations, friends, and benefactors, to open their eyes to see the beauty of Thy truth, and give them grace to embrace it.

That it may please Thee mercifully to look down from heaven on all those who suffer, and so to strengthen them in their affliction, that they may be led thereby to a more perfect love of Thee, and a stricter obedience to Thy commandments; We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

And that Thou wouldst give to us and to all people the spirit of the Gospel, and inspire us all with a zeal for peace, unity, and truth;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

O Lord, graciously hear these our prayers.

O Son of God, we beseech Thee to hear us, and have mercy upon us.

Here may be said the Prayer which is to be used when there has been Holy Communion (see Sunday Evening Prayers, page 22); and if Trinity Sunday should happen to fall on the Feast of St. Barnabas, he here says the special Collect for that festival (see Saint's-Day Morning Prayers).

Then he says the following Prayer and Collect for Trinity Sunday:

LMIGHTY and ever-living God, whose divine perfections

and adorable mysteriousness we this day commemorate; graciously accept the humble tribute of praise and thanksgiving which we, Thine unworthy servants, have presumed to offer unto Thee. Pardon the sins, the coldness, and neglect, in worshipping Thee of which we have been guilty, and give us grace to avoid them for the future. And mercifully grant that the frequent meditation of Thy infinite goodness may force our wills to love Thee above all things; and the serious consideration of Thy incomprehensible majesty captivate our understanding to the obedience of faith, that we may here, in reverence to Thy word, believe what we do not see, and hereafter, in the blissful vision of Thy glory, see more than we now believe; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who hast granted us Thy servants, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of Thy majesty to worship the Unity; we beseech Thee that, by firmness in the same faith, we may be ever protected from all adversities; who livest and reignest ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Then he says the two Collects and Prayer for a blessing, as in Sunday or Week-day Evening Prayers (see pages 23, 74, 106).
