SCRIPTURE LESSON. BESEECH you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.—Rom. xii: 1-5. PRAYER. EAVENLY Parent, from whom all good gifts do come; grant that we may use Thy mercies to our profit, and to Thy praise. Teach us to be glad in Thy truth, that we may love Thee with all our hearts. May it be our chief joy to worship Thee, and to give Thee thanks. May we honor Thy holy name and word, and serve Thee to the end of our days. Blot out all our sins, and be with us forever. Hear our prayer, and grant us all we need, and to Thee, the only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen. SCRIPTURE LESSON. LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained, what is man, that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth.-Ps. viii: 1-9. PRAYER. ATHER of Spirits, whom truly to know is eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Grant us Thy heavenly grace, that we may thoughtfully honor the revelation from on high; and do Thou so quicken us into the inner life of Thy holy word, that our faith may be centred in Thine infinite and everlasting love. Through Jesus Christ. Amen. SCRIPTURE LESSON. HEY brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed. And when they could not come nigh to Jesus because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch, into the midst before Jesus. And he, seeing their faith, said unto the palsied man, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven thee. And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. Who can forgive sins but God only? But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For which is easier? to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee? or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins-(he said unto the palsied man)-I say unto thee Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thy house. And he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them, glorifying God.-Matt. ix: 2-6 and Luke v: 18-26. PRAYER. FATHER of infinite mercy, in whose loving kindness we trust for the supply of all our wants, grant us such a portion of temporal good as may be needful to support us in our journey through life! preserve us from accident and evil; sanctify our hearts and direct our ways, that we may be united to Thee by the living bond of obedience and charity; and that always feeling the presence of our gracious and merciful Father, we may be upright children before Thee, and be received hereafter into the family of heaven, prepared through the ministry of Thy beloved son, our elder brother in spiritual things, anointed to be Thy Christ. Amen. February. One sweetly solemn thought Than I've ever been before. Where we lay our burden down; Nearer leaving the cross; Nearer gaining the crown. God's spirit falls on me as dew-drops on a rose, If I, but like a rose, to Him my heart unclose. SCRIPTURE LESSON. SING unto the Lord a new song! sing unto the Lord, all the earth, sing unto the Lord, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods; for all the gods of the nations are idols; but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering and come into his courts. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.-Ps. xcvi: 1-9. I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.-Ps. ii: 8. PRAYER. UR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and |
