I acknowledge and bewail my manifold sins and wickedness, which from time to time I have most grieviously committed by thought, word, and deed, against thy divine Majesty. O Lord, I have offended against thy holy laws; I have followed too much the devices and desires of mine own heart; I have left undone those things which I ought to have done; and I have done those things which I ought not to have done, and there is no health in me. I have been disobedient to thine authority, and unmindful of thy goodness; I have not behaved as thy servant, or as the disciple of Jesus Christ. But do Thou, O God, have mercy upon me; Thou, who desirest not the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his wickedness and live, have mercy upon me; pardon and deliver me from all my sins; cleanse me from all unrighteousness; confirm and strengthen me in all goodness: and grant me the assistance of thy Holy Spirit, that, by denying all ungodliness and worldly lusts; by living soberly, righteously, and godly; by bringing forth fruits meet for repentance; and by walking henceforward in newness of life, I may so please Thee in this present world that I may inherit thine eternal joy in that which is to come; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
