THE BRITISH SOMATOSE CO., LTD.

SOMATOSE

Is made from meat, and contains all the nutritive elements of the meat from which it is prepared in an easy assimilable form. Consisting, as it does, only of nutritive material in a form which can be directly absorbed by the organism, it is a direct nutritive agent, and produces in a very short space of time an increase in the body weight.

SOMATOSE IS A VERY VALUABLE NUTRITIVE AGENT,

and is of the greatest service in cases of impaired nutrition, children retarded in develop ment, general debility, loss of blood, exhausting diseases, and as a restorative after operations. Brilliant results are reported in chlorosis, anæmia, rickets, in commencing tuberculosis, in the puerperal state, and especially during convalescence. It has been demonstrated that febrile affections run a milder and more rapid course when Somatose is given; it is immediately absorbed, and thus the body is protected from waste and loss of power; the duration of convalescence is at the same time sensibly shortened.

Somatose in almost all cases stimulates the appetite in a remarkable manner, and its use is attended with surprisingly rapid increase in weight; in many cases patients have gained 4 lbs. in the first fortnight, and cases in which 10 lbs. have been gained in a month are by no means rare.

SOMATOSE IS A FIRST-CLASS TONIC,

and can always be used with benefit in cases in which it is desirable to stimulate the nutrition, to increase the body weight, or to strengthen patients or convalescents.

Somatose is an odourless, almost tasteless powder, which is easily soluble in water. It thus differs from all other meat preparations, many of which, either from their repugnant taste or irritant action on the digestive organs, are not tolerated for any length of time.

Profs. Woodbury and Bartley, of Long Island Hospital: "The cases in which Somatose was employed comprised cancer of the stomach, commencing tubercular disease of the lung, and indigestion. In cases in which all other food was rejected Somatose was retained, a proof of the ease with which it is digested. It was surprising that in several cases where there was total loss of appetite, after using Somatose for 2 or 3 days the appetite returned. In a case of Typhoid, in which all other food was rejected, Somatose was given for some time, and even in this case appetite returned and the weight increased."

Dr. Weber, Berlin, has found Somatose of the greatest service in Chlorosis and Anæmia, both following severe hemorrhage and occurring in convalescence. When iron was given with Somatose the results were particularly striking, much better than when iron is administered alone. Dr. Weber recommends it warmly in all cases of convalescence, as it is absorbed at once, and has also marked stimulative action on the appetite. And many others.

IRON-SOMATOSE

MILK-SOMATOSE

(Ferro-Somatose). A first-class tonic, containing the albuminous substances of the
meat (albumoses), organically combined with iron.
Special indications: Chlorosis and Anamia.

Daily Dose: 75 to 150 grains.

(Lacto-Somatose). A strength-giving food, containing the albuminous matter (albumoses) of the milk.

REASONS WHY

Angier's Emulsion

(PETROLEUM with HYPOPHOSPHITES)

Is Superior to Cod Liver Oil

1. Never grows rancid, has no taste or flavour which is objectionable,
and no smell that suggests nausea.

2. Never causes eructations, nor repetition, but agrees with delicate
stomachs, and can be taken if nausea be threatened.

3.

Never causes diarrhoea (as is sometimes the case with Cod Liver Oil),
but relieves it by arresting the growth of intestinal bacteria, and
thus cleansing the bowel.

4. Can be administered if disorders of the stomach and bowel exist, and
is indicated in these conditions.

5.

Increases weight by promoting digestion, improving nutrition, increasing
absorption and metabolism. Moreover, this increase in weight

is effected on ordinary diet, over-feeding with its attending
discomforts not being necessary.

Acts by augmenting the tissues and conserving the nourishment
from ordinary aliments (not by mere addition of hydro-carbon
material), thus adding to weight or preventing its loss.

7. Children who will not take Cod Liver Oil nearly always like
ANGIER'S EMULSION, and take it with pleasure.

FREE SAMPLES TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. CAUTION.-When prescribing, be careful to specify ANGIER'S EMULSION, otherwise some disappointing imitation made with ordinary petroleum may be substituted.
