THE SEMI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION. The American Medical Association met in Philadelphia, June 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 1897. After a very successful and enjoyable meeting, one of the leading features of which was the presentation of Dr. N. S. Davis, founder of the Association, speeches by Drs. Davis, Roberts and others, the nominating committee put in nomination the following officers: President, Surgeon-General Geo. M. Sternberg, U. S. A.; First Vice-President, Dr. J. M. Matthews, of Kentucky; Second Vice-President, Dr. W. H. Thompson, of Indiana; Third Vice-President, Dr. S. H. Wiggin, of New York; Fourth Vice-President, Dr. T. J. Webster, Illinois; Chairman Committee of Arrangements, J. W. Graham, of Colorado. Denver was selected as the next place of meeting. MIDDLE TENNESSEE MEDICAL ASSOCIATION. The following circular letter and programme have been circulated among physicians of the middle section of the State. A large and profitable meeting of this flourishing Society is expected. Judging from the list of papers a more than usually interesting meeting will be held. THE SIXTY-FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF TENNESSEE. The Society was called to order in the Hall of the House of Representatives of the Capitol, May 11, 1897, at 10 A. M. The opening prayer was offered by Bishop O. P. Fitzgerald. Gov. R. L. Taylor delivered an address of welcome in his usual happy manner, to which Dr. Happel, of Trenton, replied on behalf of the Society. Dr. Sheddan moved that, without objection, the Secretary cast the unanimous ballot of the Society for the election of the applicants recommended. On motion, the courtesies of the floor were extended to Drs. R. A. Wood, of Pittsburgh; J. D. S. Davis, of Birmingham; J. R. Coleman, of Murray, Ky.; and Dr. Lacy, of Bessemer, Ala. The reports of the Secretary and Treasurer were read. These reports were referred to the Auditing Committee; whereupon Dr. Happel suggested that the Society had no Auditing Committee, and moved that the report of the Treasurer go to a special committee of three to be acted upon. The motion was seconded and carried. The Chair appointed as members of this special committee Dr. G. C. Savage, Nashville; Dr. C. S. Briggs, Nashville; and Dr. William L. Nichol, Nashville. Dr. T. J. Happel moved that when a paper is called, if it is not read, that it be passed and be not called again until we have completed the programme. The motion was seconded and carried. The first paper was "A Plea for the Better Care of the Teeth and Mouth Cleanliness," by Dr. B. F. Reagor, of Flat Creek. This was discussed by Dr. J. Y. Crawford, of Nashville. Dr. J. H. Atlee, Chattanooga, read a paper on "Impure Milk and Its Evils," which was discussed by Dr. J. S. Cain, Nashville. Dr. S. B. Fowler, Gainesboro, read a paper on "Vesical Calculi." Discussed by Drs. Duncan Eve, Nashville; R. A. Wood, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Paul F. Eve, Nashville; T. J. Happel, Trenton; Deering J. Roberts, Nashville. Dr. G. B. Thornton, of Memphis, offered a motion, as follows: WHEREAS, It is desirable to have preserved the minutes and all official publications of this Society from its organization and first meeting in the city of Nashville in 1830, it is hereby. Resolved, That the Chair appoint a committee of three, one from each grand division of the State, to collect and bind in suitable volumes the official proceedings of this Society from its first meeting, these volumes to be placed in the Library of the State for future reference. The Chair appointed Drs. Sheddan, Duncan Eve and Thornton. EVENING SESSION. Dr. W. F. Clary, of Bellbuckle, was called to the chair; and Dr. G. W.
