The object of the Association is to promote the principles of Liberalism. Meetings are held at regular intervals, and addresses delivered during the Session. The Women Students' Debating Society.-Session 19091910.-President-Miss Inglis. Secretary-Miss King. Treasurer -Miss Stewart. This Society was founded in 1894. Its aim is to give opportunity for the practice of public speaking. The Society is open to all Matriculated Women Students, and meets once a fortnight in one of the class-rooms at 5.30 P.M.

"College Echoes," the University Magazine, is issued on the Friday of each week during the Winter Session. Each issue consists of sixteen pages (besides cover and advertisement pages), crown 4to, with illustrations, and costs threepence: the New Year and Graduation numbers are, however, always much enlarged. The Magazine is under the auspices of the S.R.C. (which annually appoints an Editor and Committee), and it is registered at Stationers' Hall. All literary communications should be addressed to the Editor, Students' Union. Secretaries of societies and clubs are expected to send in reports of meetings, matches, &c., not later than the Monday evening. The Editor and Convener is C. Hilton Brown; Sub-Editor, R. L. Jones, M.A. ; Treasurer, W. R. C. Callander.

The University Company of Royal Garrison Artillery Volunteers.-Founded in 1882. Ceased to exist as such on 31st March 1908, and was transferred to the Officers' Training Corps, of which it is now a contingent. It is not a part of the Territorial Army nor directly connected with it, but communicates with the War Office direct through the Committee on Military Training in the University. Membership is open to all students of the University and members of the staff. Students join for three years, and must make themselves efficient each year by attending the requisite instruction, going through the necessary course of musketry, and attending camp for eight days at least. Periodical examinations in military subjects are held, and certificates granted by the War Office to those who pass. Cadets possessing certificate "B" are eligible for commissions in the Territorial Force and "Special Reserve." The Commanding Officer is Major W. R. N. Annesley, D.S.O. The Convener of the Committee on Military Education is Professor Scott Lang, V.D., Hon. Colonel.

St Andrews University Christian Union. — MEN'S BRANCH (affiliated to the Student Christian Movement of Great Britain and Ireland, which is itself affiliated to the World's

Student Christian Federation).—Honorary Presidents-Principal Donaldson and Principal Stewart. President-W. M. Hogg, M.A. Vice-President-W. Douglas, M.A. Secretary-D. A. Duncan. Treasurer-R. B. Harley. This Union, similar to that in other Universities and Colleges, was formed in January 1901. It has for its objects the building up and strengthening of Christian life and character among the students of the University. The work of the Union comprises Bible Study, Foreign Mission Study, and Study of the Social Problem in discussion-circles. Meetings are held on Sunday evenings throughout the Winter Session. There is also a small library of religious literature in connection with the Union, which all students may have

access to.

WOMEN'S BRANCH.-This Association was founded in 1896 as the Women Students' Guild, and affiliated to the Student Christian Movement in 1897. The Branch is open to all Matriculated Women Students of the University. General meetings are held about four times a - term on Sunday afternoons at 2.15 in the dining-hall of the Women's Union. Education Society.-Honorary Presidents-Principal Donaldson and Principal Stewart. Honorary Vice - President— Professor Edgar. This Society was founded at the beginning of Session 1902-1903, and is open to all Matriculated Students of the University. It has for its object the discussion of educational questions, and meets in the Council Chamber of the Union every alternate Monday evening during the Session at 8.15 P.M. An essay is read by one of the members, which is afterward criticised by those present, or a debate is held. Under the auspices of the Society special lectures by prominent educationalists are delivered at intervals during the Session. These lectures are open to the public.

Société Française. This Society was formed during Session 1903-1904, and holds fortnightly meetings during the Session for debates and lectures. Every alternate meeting is of a social nature and intended to give opportunities for French conversation. All Matriculated Students and Residents of St Andrews are eligible for membership. Chemical Society.-The aims of this Society are to foster an interest in current chemical problems, and to give opportunity for the discussion of questions of chemical interest. Fortnightly meetings are held during the Winter Session. Papers are contributed by members and others, and wherever possible they are illustrated by experiments and followed by discussion. Mathematical and Physical Society. This Society was instituted in 1908 for the purpose of creating an interest in branches of the subjects not dealt with in the University Classes. The meetings, at which papers are read and discussed, are held fortnightly, on Tuesday evenings, during the Winter Session. St Andrews University Classical Society.—This Society was formed in 1908, and was mainly a revival of the previous Alexandrian Society. Its aim is to associate students interested in classical studies, with a view to procuring open lectures from distinguished scholars and giving opportunity for free discussion amongst themselves. The Men's Union, which is directly controlled by a House Committee consisting of the men student members of the Committee of Management, contains Common, Reading, Writing, Billiard, Dining, and Cloak Rooms. The Women's Union, which is similarly controlled by a House Committee, consisting of the women student members of the Committee of Management, contains Common, Reading, Writing, Dining, and Cloak Rooms. The leading literary and other magazines and newspapers are supplied in both Reading Rooms. Dinners and Luncheons are served between the hours of 12.30 and 2.30 P.M. at moderate rates. Dinners may be had by subscription at the rate of 10s. for twelve dinners. Alcoholic liquors are strictly forbidden. After 2.30 P.M., tea and coffee may be taken to the Billiard or Common Rooms.
