* A fee of £2, 2s. is charged for attendance on a single half course in Ancient History or Political Philosophy; £4, 4s. for any two half courses; and £5, 5s. for any three half courses in the same academical year.

The fee for Old English is not chargeable where that course is taken as supplementary to the class of English.

FIRST YEAR BURSARIES.

I. BURSARIES FOR MEN.

Two Taylour Thomson Bursaries, of the value of £40 each, for three years.

One Russell Bursary, of the value of £30, for three years. *Two Foundation Bursaries, of the value of about £20 each, for four years.

*Two Simson Bursaries, of the value of £20 each, for three

years.

*Five Taylour Thomson Bursaries, of the value of £15 each, for three years.

One Garth Bursary, of the value of about £15, for three years. One Duncan Bursary, of the value of about £12, for four years.

* One Pyper Bursary, of the annual value of about £9, 15s., for two years.

* A New Endowment Association Bursary, of the value of about £10, for one year.

NOTE.-The Bursaries thus marked (*) may be held in the Faculties of Medicine, Science, or Arts.

II. BURSARIES FOR WOMEN.

The Valentine Bursary, of about £24, for three years.

TAYLOUR THOMSON BURSARIES FOR WOMEN.

The following Bursaries will be open for competition in the Hall of the United College on the same days and at the same hours as the competition for the First Year Bursaries for men. They are from the fund bequeathed to the University by the late Sir William Taylour Thomson, "to assist females, as far as practicable, by means of such Bursaries, to qualify themselves to enter the medical profession."

Two Bursaries, of the value of £30 each, tenable for three years.

One Bursary, of the value of £20, tenable for three years. Five Bursaries, of the value of £15 each, tenable for three years.

The competition will be open to all entrant Students, including those who, although they may have completed the Pre

liminary Examination, have not since then attended in any Scottish University any class qualifying for graduation. But no candidate shall be entitled to a Bursary who has not completed the Preliminary Examination.

Those who propose to enter at once on their Medical Studies must have passed the Medical Preliminary Examination or its equivalent. They need not be entrant Students at the University. Those who propose to take a course of study in Arts or in Science must have passed the Preliminary Examination for Degrees in Arts and Science. They will be entitled to compete for a Taylour Thomson Bursary when they are about to begin their Medical Studies, whether they have already held one or not. No one shall be capable of holding a Taylour Thomson Bursary while attending Arts Classes unless she has attained the age of seventeen; and no one shall be capable of holding a Taylour Thomson Bursary while attending Medical Classes unless she has attained the age of nineteen.

Preference will be given to Students who sign a declaration that they intend to proceed to the study of Medicine.

Intending competitors must obtain from the Secretary of the University a schedule, and lodge the same, properly filled up, with him on or before 27th August. No fee is charged for the Bursary Competition, but candidates for one or more subjects of the Preliminary Examination (with which the Bursary Competition is combined) must pay a fee of half a guinea at the time of giving in their names.

The subjects of examination will be those of the Preliminary Examination, all on the Higher Standard-viz., English, Higher Latin, Higher Greek, Higher Mathematics, French, German, Italian, and Dynamics. Candidates may select any five, but not more, of the subjects, but will be credited with no marks in any subject unless they make at least 25 per cent of the total marks in that subject. The marks assigned to English, Latin, Greek, and Mathematics shall be in each case double the marks assigned to other subjects.

III.-MEDICAL BURSARY.

(Tenable by men or women.)

A Malcolm Bursary, of the annual value of £25, tenable for five years.

REGULATIONS AS TO BURSARIES FOR MEN.

All the Bursaries under Section I. above will be awarded on the results of the Bursary Competition, which is open to all Entrant Students, including those who, although they may have completed their Preliminary Examination, have not since then attended in any Scottish University a class that qualifies for graduation. No one shall be entitled to a Bursary who has not completed the Preliminary Examination, even though his place in the Bursary Competition might otherwise entitle him

to one.

The subjects of Examination will be those of the Preliminary Examination, all on the Higher Standard-viz.: English, Higher Latin, Higher Greek, Higher Mathematics, French, German,
