A Morning and an Evening Prayer for a Family, taken from different parts of the Liturgy of the Episcopal Church.

MORNING PRAYER.

ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; we acknowlege and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against Thy divine Majesty, provoking most justly Thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings * Turn Thou us, O good Lord, and so shall we be turned. For thou art a merciful God, full of compassion, long suffering, and of great pity. Thou sparest when we deserve punishment and in thy wrath

thinkest upon mercy. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father, for Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all that is past.†

O Saviour of the world, who by Thy eross and precious blood hast redeemed us, save us and help us we most humbly beseech Thee, O Lord. Son of God, we beseech Thee to hear us. O Lamb of God

that takest away the sins of the world, grant us Thy peace. O Lamb of God that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.§ For Thou only art holy. Thou only art the Lord; Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father.¶

Almighty and everlasting God who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind

of danger but that all our doings may be ordered by their governance, to do always what is righteous in Thy sight. Increase

and multiply upon us Thy mercy, that Thou
being our ruler and guide, we may so pass
through things temporal, that we finally
lose not the things eternal. Grant that
all carnal affections may die in us, and
that all things belonging to the Spirit may
live and grow in us.
Grant that we may
have power and strength to have victory
and to triumph against the devil, the world,
and the flesh.‡ O God, forasmuch as
without Thee we are not able to please
Thee; mercifully grant, that Thy Holy
Spirit may in all things direct and rule
our hearts, through Jesus Christ.¶ Pour
into our hearts such love toward Thee, that
we, loving Thee above all things, may
obtain Thy promises, which exceed all
that we can desire;t-and in all our works,

begun, continued, and ended in Thee, may we glorify Thy Holy Name.*

Keep, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy church with Thy perpetual merey; may it be so guided and governed by Thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians, may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to Thy fatherly goodness, all those who are any ways afflicted in mind, body, or estate, that it may please Thee to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions, and this we beg for Jesus Christ His sake, in whose Name and words we sum up all our petitions.

Prayer for all sorts and condition of men.

O GOD the Father, of heaven; have mercy upon us miserable sinners.

O God the Son, Redeemer of the world; have mercy upon us miserable sinners.

O God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son; have mercy upon us miserable sinners.

O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity, three persons, and one God; have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.

Remember not, Lord, our offences, nor the offences of our forefathers, neither take Thou vengeance of our sins, spare us, good Lord, spare Thy people, whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy most precious blood, and be not angry with us for ever.t O Lord deal not with us after our sins; Neither reward us after our iniquities. O God make clean our hearts within us; And take not Thy Holy Spirit
