be divided, not with any irreverent feeling, but that by "welding Scripture with Scripture, and so using it in its largest application," the beauty, and fulness, and sufficiency of the Scriptures might be elucidated.

The desire to avoid repetition, and also to allow as many fresh passages of "the Word" as possible in the small compass, prevented some verses being used where they might be expected, having been used under other headings.

It is very necessary that it should be borne in mind that it is the wants and difficulties of the poorer classes which have been considered in the compilation of this little work, many of the subjects having been suggested by their own. questions; and it has been from the Bible, and the Bible alone, that answers to every question have been sought.

The compiler is fully aware that the work is incomplete ; but it is earnestly hoped that it may prove useful to those to whom it is now offered; and if even a small amount of comfort and instruction attends its circulation, it will fully repay the time and labour spent on its preparation ; and should any pecuniary profit arise from the sale of the book, it will be appropriated for Bible mission work.

The compiler takes courage in committing the success of this little work to the great Lord of the harvest, feeling sure that if the favour and blessing of Him for whose service it is humbly offered rest upon it, nothing more can be desired.
