A. Yes; in a much higher sense.

For all

others received a portion only of the Holy Spirit; but God gave not the Spirit by measure unto Christ.

Q. 11. Was it foretold in Scripture, that Christ should be anointed with the Holy Spirit?

A. Yes, often; especially in the prophecy of Isaiah, Ch. 61. 1, 2. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord," which Scripture Jesus said, was fulfilled in himself. Lu. 4. 18, 19.

Q. 12.-And how do you know that Jesus is the Christ?

A. Because all which the Scriptures foretold about his birth, and appearance in the world, and sufferings, and death; and also of his resurrection, and ascension, and of the preaching of the Gospel to the Gentiles-all was fulfilled in Christ.

A. That he was to be born of a Virgin, of the tribe of Judah, of the family of David, in the village of Bethlehem ;-so he was.

* Q. 14.-What did they say about his appearance in the world?

A.

That he should be despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;"so he was.

* Q. 15.-What did they say about his sufferings?

A. That he should bear our griefs and carry our sorrows that he should be wounded

A. That he should be brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and cut off out of the land of the living, and make his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death;"-so he did. See the 53d chapter of Isaiah.

A. That his flesh should rest in hope; for that God would not leave his soul in hell, nor suffer his holy one to see corruption." Ps. 16. 9, 10.—Which was fulfilled by the rising of Jesus from the dead. Acts. 2. 24, 32.

ascensi n?

A. That he should ascend up on high, and lead captivity captive, and receive gifts for men ;"-which he did. See Ps. 68. 18, Eph.

Q. 19.What did they say about his preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles?

A. That he should bring forth judgment to the Gentiles, and the isles should wait for his law, for God would give him for a covenant of the people, for a light to the Gentiles:" Is. 42-all which really took place by the preaching of the Gospel throughout the whole world.

* Q. 20.—Why do you conclude from all these things that JESUS is the CHRIST?

A. Because these prophecies were never fulfilled in any other person, and they were fulfilled in Jesus, and therefore he must be the Christ, of whom Moses in the law and the Prophets did write.

A.-No: we must believe in Christ with our hearts, and obey his word, or else all our profession will be vain; for he hath said, If a man love me, he will keep my words." John

* Q. 22.-What may we learn from this whole subject?

A.-The unspeakable love of God to us sin. ners, in providing for us a Saviour, who is able to save to the uttermost, all that come unto God by him."

III. HIS ONLY SON.

* Q. 1.-Are not we all the children of God?

A. Yes; we are all his children, in one sense, for he made us, and not we ourselves.

Q. 2. And are not all true Christians

the sons of God?

A. Yes; they are the sons of God, because they are born again

and adopted into his family.

* Q. 3.-And are not sons of Gud ?

A. Yes; and they are said to have << shouted for joy," when the world was made. Job 38. 7.

*Q. 4.-Ts CHRIST the Son of God in a nobler sense, than angels or men ?

A.-Yes; in a much nobler sense ; they are only called the sons of God, by a figure; but CHRIST is truly the Son of God. sides, they are inferior in their nature to God, but CHRIST is equal to the Father.

Q. 5.-Do the words themselves, the Son of God, imply that CHRIST is equal with God?

A. Yes; as the words, the Son of Man imply that he was truly man; so the words the Son of God, imply that he was truly God.

Q. 6. Did the Jews understand the words in this sense?

A. Yes; for when Jesus called God his Father, we read, that ، The Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also, that God was his Father, making himself equal with God." Jo. 5. 18.
