POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOR EVER. AMEN. 163

Q. 10.-Mention

some instances out of

Scripture of persons taking encouragement in prayer from the power of God?

A. The Scripture is full of instances: but we may particularly mention King Asa's prayer for victory over his enemies. 2d Chron. 14. 11, and St. Paul's for the Ephesians, Eph. 3. 20, 21.

Q. 11. Do we learn from these words nothing else, except the encouragement we have to pray to God?

A. Yes; it is a pattern of praise and adoration. Q. 12. What do you mean by praise and adoration?

[ocr errors]

A. I mean, ascribing unto God the glory due unto his name.

Q. 13.-Is it necessary we should thus praise God?

:

A-Very necessary all our prayers should be mixed with thanksgiving and praise. See Ps. 50, 14, 23.

Q. 14-But is it to be expected in this world. of sin and sorrow, that we should be able to praise God?

A. It is; for the great end of the Gospel is to bring us to such an experience of the mercies

of God to us in Christ, as shall dispose our hearts to praise him at all times. See Heb. 13. 15, Q. 15.-Are we naturally disposed to praise God?

A.-No; we have no natural disposition either to pray to God, or to praise him; but generally speaking, even good people are far more backward to praise and bless God, than they are to pray to him.

Q. 16. What effect should a consideration of this have upon us?

A. We should go to God with the of prayer David. "O Lord, open thou our lips, and our mouth shall shew forth thy praise," and we should stir up ourselves to praise God, as he did: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name."

Q. 17.-What other effect should be produced on us?

A. We should look forward with earnest desires after heaven, where Saints and Angels will be employed in praising God for ever. See Rev. 4. 10, 11.
