SECTION IV.-Truth and Honesty.

As a mad man who casteth fire. brands, arrows, and death,

So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

An hypocrite with his mouth

destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him.

When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart,

Whose hatred is covered by deceit; his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

Whoso diggethapit shall fall therein and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness; but a false witness, deceit.

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

The lips of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a mòment.

¶17 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

His tongue deviseth mischiefs: like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

Excellent speech becometh not a fool; much less do lying lips a prince.

Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse; nations shall abhor him.

The mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
