PSALM CX. 12.-So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

TO-DAY is my birth-day, when first the sun's light,

The hues of creation displayed to my sight, My being began, which for ever shall last, When all the enjoyments of earth will He past.

God form'd me for happiness, blest in His love,

He sent me a blessing to others to prove ; To be just and affectionate, useful and kind, With heavenly wisdom to furnish my mind.

That learning His will and commandments below,

His praises to others I daily may show ;

Until I'm removed to His kingdom on high, Where angels encircle His throne in the sky.

And have I devoted my life unto Him

Who died to redeem me, and save me from sin?

On my path does the Day-star of Righteousness shine;

Has the sun-light of truth shed its ray on my mind?

Oh! better, far better, I never had been, Than careless and thoughtless be living in sin, A foe to the Saviour, whose word has declared,

For those who despise Him are torments prepared.

But if unto Him I've devoted my days, Obeyed His precepts, and walked in his ways, Have known and rejoiced in His love's wondrous story,

Oh! happy, how happy, my birth-day in glory.

PSALM V. 3.

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer to thee, and will look up.

PASS'D are the shadows of the night,-
Once more I wake to life and light;
Thus may the light of life divine,
Disperse all darkness from my mind.

Whene'er Thy glorious works I view,
And taste Thy mercies ever new ;
Still may I own Thy love and power,
And seek to please Thee every hour.

Keep me from vanity and vice,
Whate'er temptation may entice;
May I improve in truth and grace,
And shun each evil way and place.

Humble, obedient may I be,
From malice, pride, and envy free;
And, grateful for Thy favours given,
Pursue the narrow way to heaven.

For the Evening.

PSALM xix. 12. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handy-work. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night teacheth knowledge.

WHEN shades of evening veil the earth,
And nought is seen but lights in heaven;
Oh! may I feel the Gospel's worth,
And read the lesson nightly given.

That all that's fair below the skies,
Will quickly fade and pass away;
Of all I love, of all I prize,
Glory above alone will stay.

Though young, may I prepare for death,
Since all on earth I must resign;
That when I yield this fleeting breath,
Immortal joy may then be mine.
