CHELMSFORD, 1847,

Will take place the week after Brighton.

THE Chelmsford Stakes of 20 sov. each, 10 ft. and only 5 if declared to Messrs Weatherby, or the Clerk of the Course, on the Saturday before Goodwood races. If ten horses rentain in, 100 sov. will be added by the Gentlemen of the County, and the winner will have to pay 20 sov. towards the expenses; if less than ten, 50 sov. will be added, and the winner will have to pay 10 sov. towards the expenses; but the added money will not be given, and the winner will not have to pay towards the expenses, if walked over for; the second horse to save his stake; the winner of the Liverpool Trade cup, the Goodwood, or Brighton stakes to carry 7lb. of two of those races 10lb, extra, of any other handicap amounting to 100 sov. (including the winner's stake) from the day of publishing the weights to the day of running, both included, 4th, of two such handicaps, 7lb. of three, 10lb. extra; but no horse to carry more than 10lb. extra; once round and a distance, being a little more than two miles,

The Hylands Stakes of 10 sov. each, with 50 added (30 being by J. Attwood, Esq. M.P. and 20 from the Race-fund) for two yrs old colts, 8st. 5lb. and fillies, 8st. 31b. winners at the time of starting of any two yrs old stakes amounting to 100 sov. to carry 4lb. extra for every such winning. If walked over for, the 50 sov. will not be added; from the turn of the Lands in, being about half a mile.

WRITTLE, 1847,

Will be held on Oxney Green, near Writtle, on or about Thursday, the 1st of July.

A SWEEPSTAKES of 3 sov. each, with not less than 20 added; three yrs old, 7st. 10lb. four, 9st. five, 9st. 9lb. aged, 10st. mares and geldings allowed 3lb. the second to save his stake; heats, twice round and a distance: the winner to be sold for 1001. if claimed in the usual way.

The Thorndon Cup, the gift of the Right Hon. Lord Petre, upon a Sweepstakes of 2 sov. each, with not less than 20 added, for horses not thorough-bred, the bona fide property of farmers residing in the county of Essex, occupying not less than 100 acres of land in the said county, and which horses shall have been in their possession and use, and not been trained by, or standing at, the stables of any public trainer from the 1st of March 1847; 11st. each; a winner once in 1846-7, 3lb. twice, 5lb. three times, 7lb. extra; three miles; the second to save his stake: the winner to be sold for 1001. if claimed; the horses to be ridden by Farmers of Essex occupying as above, or by their Sons following the same occupation, and never having ridden as paid jockies. No public trainer, livery-stable keeper, or licensed horse-dealer, will be allowed to enter.

The Writtle Handicap of 20 sov. each, h. ft. and only 5 if declared by a time to be fixed when the handicap is published, with 50 added; the second to save his stake; two miles.

The stake to close the Tuesday after Epsom races, and the horses to be named at the Office of Messrs Weatherby, 6 Old Burlington street, London, on or before that day, and to be handicapped by them.

The Hunters' Stakes of 2 sov. each, with not less than 20 added; 12st. each; six sets of hurdles, twice round and a distance, heats; the second to save his stake.

A Plate of 50 sov. three yrs old, 7st. 7lb. four, 8st. 7lb. five, Est. 121b. six and aged, 9st. mares and geldings allowed 3ib. the winner to be sold for 2001. if demanded; if entered to be sold for 1501. allowed 5fb. if for 1001. 10th. if for 801. 14lb, one-mile heats. Entrance, 2 sov. to go to the second horse.

Will take place on Wednesday the 5th of May.

The Lyneham Stakes of 5 sov. each, 2 ft. for horses bona fide the property of subscribers; heats, once round and a distance; Gentlemen riders; the second horse to save his stake. If 30 subscribers, the winner to pay 5 sov, to the fund; if 50 subscribers, the winner to pay 10 sov. and if walked over for, 10 sov. in addition; four yrs old to carry 11st. 8lb. five yrs old, 12st. 8tb. six and aged, 13st. thorough-bred horses, 4b, extra; winners before the day of running 3fb. extra; of 50 sov. at one time, 5lb. of twice, 50 sov. or 100 sov. 10lb. a winner of the Lyneham stakes, 5fb. in addition; horses bred or reared in Devon or Cornwall allowed 5tb. and if they have also a stain in their pedigree, not derived from Rajah or the dam of Tartar, allowed 91b. in addition: five yrs old and upwards that have been fairly hunted at least 12 times by the owner or his friend, and not less than six times since Christmas 1846, with any established pack of fox-hounds, in the counties of Devon or Cornwall, allowed 10tb. m. and g. allowed 3b. At present 55 subscribers,

A Handicap Plate of 50 sov.

A Hurdle Stake of 3 sov. each, with 15 added.

A Sweepstake of one sov, each, with a silver Cupadded, value 101.

All horses entering for the Lyneham and Hurdle stakes are to be named to Mr John Hex, Plymouth Mews, Princes street, Plymouth, on or before the Friday preceding the races, or to forfeit 3 sov. extra at the time of starting.

FIRST DAY.- The Saltram Stakes of 25 sov. each, 10 ft. and only 5 if declared to Messrs Weatherby, in London, or to the Clerk of the Course, at Plymouth, by a day to be fixed when the handicap is declared; 50 sov. added by the Town of Plymouth. No non-subscriber to have more than one nomination given to him, and no subscriber more than two; the taker of a nomination remaining in will have to pay the greater forfeit should he not start, and 25 sov. if he does; the winner of any stakes amounting to 1501. after the publication of this handicap to carry 5lb, for each time of such winning; the winner of the Devonshire stakes at Exeter in 1847 to carry 71b. extra. Three horses to start, or the public money will not be added; the second horse to save his stake; once round and a distance.
